On his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since formation of
new government here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked
Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said ‘Insaniyat, Kashmiriyat and
Jamhooriat’ will be path adopted for taking the state
forward and promised to work shoulder-to-shoulder with the
Mehbooba Mufti dispensation.
2. In an apparent reference to the unrest in NIT, Srinagar
,incident, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti
has asked students in the state to be hospitable towards
outstation pupils and make them feel at home so that
Kashmiris studying in other parts of the country get the same
treatment.
3. A National Conference MLA has alleged he was “harassed”
by Jammu and Kashmir police prompting party chief Omar
Abdullah to condemn the incident, and demanded strict
action against the police officials.
4. Exuding confidence that India has the capacity to lead
the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has predicted that
the country with its youthful population will rule the 21st
century, which is the era of knowledge.
5. Not satisfied with progress on the implementation of much
talked about Prime Minister’s 6000 job package for Kashmiri
migrant youth announced way back in 2008, the Centre has
urged the State Government to expedite the recruitment
process and ensure that advertisements regarding
appointment of remaining 3000 posts are issued at the
earliest.
6. Chief of Army Staff, General Dalbir Singh visited Kashmir
to review the security situation against the backdrop of
civilian killings in Handwara and Kupwara in security forces’
firing. And the tension in North Kashmir’s Handwara and
Kupwara towns was defused following week long protests
after an Army bunker in the Main Chowk, Handwara was
removed.
7. Union Ministry of Human Resource Development and
Ministry of Environment and Forests have failed to file
response to the notice issued by the National Green Tribunal
(NGT) in a petition challenging transfer of 159 hectares of
forest land for establishment of Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT) in Jammu.
8. The Tura Lok Sabha seat and the Anantnag Assembly
constituency which fell vacant following the demise of former
Speaker P A Sangma and the then Jammu and Kashmir Chief
Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed respectively will witness
bypolls in May.
9. The State High Court has stayed the eviction of Ex-
Ministers and former legislators from Government
accommodations.
10. A Hizbul Mujahideen worker, who was involved in the
recruitment of the youth, has been arrested from Baramulla
district of North Kashmir.
11. Buckling under protests and street violence in Bengaluru,
the Government rolled back its order tightening rules for
withdrawal of provident fund money, within hours of keeping
it in abeyance for three more months.
12. Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh has directed the
officers to put in place a well devised mechanism by which
people can get requisite power supply especially during
summers on account of the additional 100 MW which would be
supplied as an additionality, besides also ensuring that power
pilferage is checked and revenue collections are increased.
