No Junk: Halwa-Puri, Samosa, Jalebi and more banned for Amarnath Pilgrims
In a bid to prioritize the well-being of pilgrims, the Amarnath Shrine Board (ASB) has introduced significant changes to the langar menus for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2023, which commences on July 1.
The ASB has directed langar organizations to serve nutritious and healthy meals to pilgrims en route to the cave shrine, leading to the ban on mouth-watering deep-fried delicacies such as Halwa-Puri, Samosa-Jalebi, and other similar items.
Over 120 langars will be established along the twin routes in the Anantnag District, catering to the pilgrims’ needs. The ASB has released a list of permitted and banned food items, ensuring that junk food, fried snacks, and high-fat meals are no longer part of the offerings. The permitted menu includes cereals, pulses, green vegetables, fruits, sprouts, rice, herbal tea, and more.
In another move, the Director of Health Services Jammu has mandated the cancellation of all leave applications for doctors and para-medical staff, except for maternity leave and commuted leave on medical grounds. This decision aims to ensure that sufficient medical personnel are available to provide adequate healthcare support throughout the Yatra.
With these health-focused changes, the ASB is committed to enhancing the overall well-being and safety of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, offering them nourishing meals and access to medical assistance when required.
