JKBOSE 12th Passing Marks 2025: Updated Passing Criteria for Class 12 Board Exams

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has outlined the passing marks criteria for Class 12 (Higher Secondary Part II) students for the 2025 board examinations.
As per the official notification and board updates, students must secure minimum marks in theory, practical (if applicable), and overall aggregate to qualify in each subject.
Passing Marks – Overview (Class 12 Board Exams 2025)
JKBOSE 12th Passing Criteria includes:
  • Minimum marks required to pass each subject
  • Separate requirements for English vs. elective subjects
  • Practical component pass marks (where applicable)
Key Pass Marks Rules
  • General English: Minimum 33% required to pass.
  • All Other Elective Subjects: Minimum 36% required to pass.
  • For practical subjects: Students must secure at least 36% separately in theory, practicals, and total aggregate.
Subject-Wise Passing Marks – Class 12
Below is the standard passing marks breakdown that students should know ahead of result evaluation:
General English
  • Full Marks: 100
  • Passing Marks: 33
  • Theory: 26
  • Internal Assessment: 7
Science and Other Elective Subjects
  • Full Marks: 100 (combining theory + internal + practical, if applicable)
  • Passing Marks: 36
  • Examples: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Computer Science
  • Requires at least 36% overall and 36% in theory and practical/IA separately for subjects with practicals.
How Passing Marks are Applied
Theory Subjects
  • Students must secure the minimum percentage of marks in the theory portion of each subject to be considered pass.
  • Exam papers with 80 or 70 marks theory require students to reach the percentage of total marks indicated in the criteria above.
Practical and Internal Assessment
  • For subjects with practical exams, students must pass both theory and practical parts separately with at least 36% in each.
Aggregate Passing
  • Final passing status is decided on the combined total of theory + internal + practical (as applicable).
  • Even if a student passes theory but fails practical or internal assessment, they will need to appear in the compartment exam.

Important Clarifications for Students
General English has a slightly lower passing threshold (33%) compared to other subjects.
Elective subjects including Commerce, Arts, Science, and vocational streams usually require 36% overall.
✔ Practical subjects demand minimum 36% each in theory and practical components.
✔ The board’s criteria clarify that both parts must be passed separately — you cannot compensate a low practical score with a high theory score.
What Happens If You Don’t Meet Passing Marks
Students who fail to meet the minimum passing criteria in any subject may:
  • Become eligible for compartment/re-appear exams, typically held later (e.g., April).
  • Request revaluation or retotalling of answer sheets after result declaration (if eligible as per board guidelines).
