Pakistani security forces have rescued about 155 passengers who were taken hostage during a militant attack on the Jaffar Express in Balochistan’s Bolan district, Pakistan media quoting officials said. The highjacking of the train occurred on Tuesday when armed militants of Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) intercepted the train by blasting the tracks in a tunnel while it was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar.

The attackers, identified as members of the Balochistan Liberation Army, took over 400 passengers hostage, including women, children, and security personnel.

In the ongoing operation, security forces have killed 27 militants so far. Officials say some attackers are wearing explosive vests and are positioned dangerously close to remaining hostages, making the rescue mission extremely challenging.

At least 10 people, including the train’s driver and eight security personnel, lost their lives during the violence. The BLA claimed responsibility for the attack and stated they had freed some hostages. Rescue operations continue near the Mushkaf Tunnel as extra security forces, helicopters and drones continue to monitor the situation and working for the safe release of the remaining passengers.
