Advisory To Prevent Fire Incidents

In view of the ensuing winter season, the Divisional Administration, Kashmir, in the interest of public safety, once again urges all citizens to exercise heightened caution and vigilance during the winter months to prevent deaths due to asphyxiation and fire incidents.

Repeated observations reveal that most fire incidents occur due to electrical short circuits, use of substandard appliances, and unsafe storage of flammable materials within homes. Citizens are therefore advised to strictly adhere to the following precautionary measures:

General Precautions

Ensure that all heating appliances, stoves, and LPG cooking units are switched off before going to sleep or when leaving home.

Handle Kangris (traditional fire pots) with utmost care, particularly at night.

Do not store dry grass, wood, or other combustible materials inside or adjacent to residential premises. Such materials should be kept safely in isolated and ventilated areas.

Electrical Safety :

Ensure that all wiring, plugs, sockets, and fuses are in good condition and free from damage.

Get internal wiring and load capacity inspected by a qualified electrician before winter.

Avoid the use of faulty or substandard electrical appliances and ensure that only ISI-marked devices are used.

Exercise caution while operating high-wattage room heaters and electric blankets, and never leave them unattended or switched on overnight.

Use quality MCBs and Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers (ELCBs).

Avoid overloading circuits or using extension cords for heavy electrical appliances like heaters and geysers.
