Jammu News: After Udhampur, now encounter breaks out in Kathua
Jammu News: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the dense forest area of Chatroo in Jammu division’s Kishtwar district on Wednesday, officials said.
A senior police officer said that the gunfight started after a joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on credible inputs regarding suspicious movement in the area.
“While the area was being searched, security personnel came under heavy fire from hiding terrorists, triggering an intense exchange of fire,” the officer said.
The forest area has been sealed off and additional reinforcements have been rushed to the site to tighten the cordon and prevent any escape.
Heavy firing was reported from both sides and the operation is ongoing. No immediate reports of casualties have been confirmed so far.
This is the second such operation reported today in the Jammu region. Earlier in the afternoon, encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Udhampur.
