Ramadhan Crescent Sighted in J&K, First Day of Roza Tomorrow
The crescent moon marking the commencement of the holy month of Ramadhan was sighted in parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday evening, Grand Mufti of Jammu & Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, announced.
Mufti Nasir as per news agency said authenticated testimonies were received from multiple locations confirming the sighting of the crescent after Maghrib prayers.
“Based on verified reports, the holy month of Ramadhan will begin from Thursday, 19 February,” he said, adding that Taraweeh prayers will commence from tonight.
He extended greetings to the Muslim community and urged people to observe the holy month with devotion, discipline and a spirit of compassion.
The announcement followed deliberations with members of the moon sighting committee and senior religious scholars.—(JKNS)
