Cold wave, dry weather persist across J&K

Cold wave and dry weather conditions have persisted across Jammu and Kashmir, with temperatures hovering below the freezing point in Srinagar, officials said on Tuesday.

Except for Srinagar, several weather stations recorded a sharp dip in minimum temperatures compared to the previous day. According to the MeT forecast, there is a possibility of light snowfall at scattered places in the Kashmir Valley over the next 24 hours.

On Monday night, the minimum temperature at Zojila dropped again to minus 17 degrees Celsius.

Night temperatures improved slightly in Srinagar, as the minimum temperature settling at minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, compared to minus 1.9 degrees recorded on the previous day.

In contrast, temperatures across north, south, and central Kashmir districts witnessed a sharp dip on Monday night.

Jammu city remained the warmest place with 8.4 degrees Celsius, while south Kashmir’s Pulwama was the coldest place with minus 4.5 degrees Celsius.
Daytime temperatures have stayed relatively above normal across Jammu and Kashmir, while nighttime temperatures have remained below freezing point across most weather stations in the Valley.

Temperatures fluctuated across several districts in central and south Kashmir on Monday night, including Budgam, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Shopian, and Anantnag.

Qazigund, known as the gateway to Kashmir, recorded minus 2 degrees Celsius, while several other weather stations across north Kashmir, including Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, also witnessed a sharp dip in minimum temperatures.

In the Jammu division, weather remained relatively moderate, with Jammu city recording 8.4 degrees Celsius, while Banihal, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, and Batote experienced a slight dip in nighttime temperatures over the past three weeks.
