DC Srinagar Announces First Advanced School for Specially-Abled Children

Srinagar is poised to establish its first state-of-the-art school dedicated to specially-abled children, a facility that will be unique in the entire Kashmir region.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, said the upcoming Abhinandan School will cater to children with visual and hearing impairments and will serve students from across the Kashmir division.

Speaking to the media, Labroo said the Social Welfare Department is currently executing several important initiatives in the district, including the Palash and Parisha special schools. He noted that these institutions have recently undergone improvements to better address educational needs, sports facilities, and health-related services. He termed the Abhinandan School a flagship and highly significant project for the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said multiple departments are working jointly to ensure the project is completed on schedule. These include Roads and Buildings, Power Development, Water Supply, Revenue, Police, Planning, and Social Welfare departments. While the official deadline for the project is set for 2027, he said efforts are underway to complete it ahead of time without compromising on quality.

Outlining priorities for 2026, Labroo said the administration will focus on finishing all approved development projects in Srinagar. He stressed that projects with sanctioned funds should be completed without interruption. Key focus areas, he said, include improving last-mile connectivity, completing infrastructure works, easing traffic congestion, and ensuring efficient land use while preventing encroachments.

The Deputy Commissioner also voiced concern over the increasing number of fire incidents in Srinagar city. He urged residents to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by the administration. He advised people to have their electrical systems inspected and ensure that their power usage aligns with sanctioned load limits.

He warned against negligent handling of electrical equipment and highlighted that storing dry grass near residential areas significantly raises fire hazards. Labroo appealed to the public to promptly report any incidents so emergency and fire services can respond swiftly.
