I Am Not Retiring from ODI : Rohit Sharma
India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, has firmly dismissed rumors about his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs). Following India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy on March 9, 2025, where they defeated New Zealand by four wickets in Dubai, speculation arose regarding Sharma’s future in the ODI format. Addressing these rumors during the post-match press conference, Sharma stated, “I am not going to retire from this (ODI) format. Going forward, please don’t spread rumours.”
At 37, Sharma has already retired from Twenty20 Internationals but remains committed to Test and ODI cricket. He emphasized his focus on upcoming series and tournaments, dismissing ongoing speculation about his career plans. Earlier this year, he responded to retirement questions by saying, “How is it relevant that I talk about my future plans here when we have three ODIs and the Champions Trophy coming up?”
Sharma’s contributions to Indian cricket are significant, including leading the team to victories in major tournaments like the recent Champions Trophy. His commitment to the sport and the team continues to be a driving force behind India’s success on the international stage.
