India-Pakistan Tensions: Terror universities razed, PM Modi says Muridke, Bahawalpur were hubs of global terror in address on Operation Sindoor
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a televised address to the nation Monday night, said India’s strikes under Operation Sindoor dismantled not just terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan but also their “courage” and state-backed support system.
“When Indian missiles and drones attacked those sites in Pakistan, it was not just the buildings of the terrorist organisations but their courage also shook,” Modi said. He named Muridke and Bahawalpur as “universities of global terrorism”, alleging links to attacks like 9/11 and major terror attacks in India.
“These were not ordinary terror hideouts, these were launchpads for global jihad. The world now knows where the roots lie,” he added.
Modi also accused Pakistan’s military of open support to terrorism. “The world has seen that dirty truth of Pakistan when the high-ranked officers of the Army bid the slain terrorists adieu. There cannot be a bigger proof of state-sponsored terrorism,” he said.
Reiterating his government’s stance, Modi said the operations are “only in abeyance” and that India’s future action will depend entirely on Pakistan’s behaviour going forward.

India-Pakistan Tensions: Director Generals of Military Operations of India and Pakistan held talks today, sources said.
Director Generals of Military Operations of India and Pakistan held talks today, sources said, ANI reported. They said talks between the two DGMOs have been completed for today. The DGMO-level talks between the two countries, which were initially slated to take place around noon on Monday, were later scheduled for the evening.
The two countries reached an understanding on Saturday on the stoppage of firing and military action following a call made by the Pakistan DGMO to his Indian counterpart Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai. Lt Gen Ghai, who interacted with the media at a joint press conference on Sunday, said his Pakistan counterpart proposed during an interaction on Saturday that “we cease hostilities”. “My communication with the Pak DGMO was conducted at 15:35 hrs yesterday (Saturday) and resulted in cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by either side with effect from 17:00 hrs, May 10, after he proposed that we cease hostilities. We also decided to further speak on May 12 at 12:00 hrs to discuss the modalities that would enable the longevity of this understanding,” Lt Gen Ghai said.
“However, disappointingly, expectedly, it took only a couple of hours for the Pakistan Army to violate these arrangements by cross-border and across the Line of Control (LoC) firing, followed by drone intrusions last night and in the early hours of today (Sunday). These violations were responded to robustly,” he added. Lt Gen Ghai said his counterpart was informed about the violations through a hotline message. India made its intent clear that it would respond to the same “fiercely” if repeated, for which the Chief of Army Staff has granted full authority to the Army Commanders. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir in response to a ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam last month in which 26 people were killed.

India-Pakistan Tensions: Left parties back Misri, Brittas writes to home minister demanding probe into online trolling faced by FS
Left parties on Monday slammed the trolls targeting Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, with the CPI(M) questioning the BJP-led government’s silence over the issue and its leader, John Brittas, writing to Home Minister Amit Shah for an inquiry into the online attacks faced by the senior diplomat. In a post on X, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) shared an image quoting a report on Misri and his daughter being trolled online.
“Why is the government silent? Shame on the trolls,” the CPI(M) said.
Brittas, the parliamentary party leader of the CPI(M) in the Rajya Sabha and a member of the Parliamentary Panel on External Affairs, condemned the barrage of online attacks targeting Misri and his family, and requested the home minister to take action.
Brittas said the coordinated online assaults, far from being isolated acts of malice, reveal a disturbing pattern of digital defamation aimed at discrediting the very custodians of the country’s constitutional and administrative order.
“It is distressing that his articulation of policies and decisions, duly approved by the ruling dispensation, has been misconstrued and cynically weaponised to personally vilify him. It is, therefore, deeply alarming that Shri Misri has been singled out for a vile torrent of abuse on social media, with his children even being dragged into the mire of toxic commentary,” the Left leader said.

India-Pakistan Tensions: Col Qureshi left lasting impression on students during her Kolkata stint, recalls civilian officer
Long before Colonel Sofiya Qureshi became a national icon as one of the leaders of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army officer was an inspiration to thousands of students in West Bengal. Qureshi, who was posted at Fort William in Kolkata in 2022, had left a lasting impression on youngsters with her calm yet firm mentorship during a webinar organised by the West Bengal Minority Development and Finance Corporation (WBMDFC), corporation chairman and MD, PB Salim, told PTI.
Fort William serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army.
Qureshi may have walked into the talks as a guide for the WBMDFC’s Career Guidance Series that was attended by students and professionals from diverse walks of life, largely confined to their homes facing career uncertainties, but she left the platform a hero, Salim, who vividly recalls the session, said.
“I wanted to be a scientist, but I also nurtured the dream of being in the army, as many members of my family are in the army, though earlier there was no scope for women to join it. But when the entry option came, I immediately took the plunge,” Qureshi had told the audience during the session.
Asking the participants, including girls, to “be positive,” she had exhorted them not to be discouraged by people’s words.

“Were Pahalgam attack terrorists caught?”: Congress’ Bhupesh Baghel questions success of Operation Sindoor
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Monday questioned the success of Operation Sindoor, a military operation against Pakistan conducted by India in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. Bagel specifically raised doubts about the operation’s success, asking whether the terrorists involved in the attack were apprehended.
While the Congress party and the broader opposition have expressed support for the government’s retaliatory action, Baghel raised concerns about the central government’s handling of the situation.
Speaking to media persons, Baghel said, “26 people lost their lives, were those 4 or 5 terrorists caught? If they were not caught, then how can you say that Operation Sindoor was successful? Who is responsible for the lapse?
The Congress leader further questioned the government’s claim of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, noting that civilians had visited the region based on government assurances.
“People went to Kashmir on your (government’s) assurance that everything is normal. People went there with their families and lost their loved ones,” he added.

Congress seeks Centre’s clarification on third-party mediation in Kashmir issue
The Congress on Monday urged the Centre to clarify whether it is open to third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue, warning that such a stance could potentially violate the Simla Agreement. The grand old party pointed to US President Donald Trump’s daily statements, claiming that he was intervening in the matter, and said a clarification from the union government on the matter was inevitable.
While addressing a party programme here, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said the party wants to know whether there has been a shift in the country’s foreign policy, and therefore the matter has to be taken up in the Parliament at the earliest.
Questions are now being raised if the Simla Agreement has been violated.
“Was the Simla Agreement, which rejects any third-party involvement in the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan, violated? Trump has been making statements daily, claiming that he has intervened in the matter. We need the government’s clarification,” Venugopal said.
“The Congress party has asked the Prime Minister of India to urgently convene Parliament to discuss these issues. This is not to blame anyone or put them on trial.”
The Congress party also called for a special session of Parliament to evaluate the situation in detail, to identify any mistakes that were made, and to ensure that they are not repeated in the future.
“We must get answers to these questions in order to rectify lapses and mistakes, and to continue our fight against Pakistan without fail,” he added.

India-Pakistan Tensions Live Updates: 32 airports closed due to India-Pak standoff set to reopen
Civil aviation authorities have decided to reopen 32 airports that were shut for civil flight operations following last week’s armed conflict between India and Pakistan, official sources said on Monday. A formal announcement regarding the resumption of operations at these airports is expected to be announced soon, the sources added.
Civil flight operations from 32 airports across northern and western India, including Srinagar and Amritsar, were suspended from May 9 to May 15 due to the military standoff between India and Pakistan.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with other aviation authorities, issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), announcing the temporary closure of 32 airports across northern and western India for all civilian flight operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan, declaring that India will not tolerate any form of “nuclear blackmail” and that further military action remains an option depending on Islamabad’s conduct.
In his first address to the nation since the launch of Operation Sindoor, PM Modi said India halted its military operations only after Pakistan “pleaded” for a pause and promised to cease hostilities.
“We have only kept in abeyance our operations against Pakistan. The future will depend on their behaviour,” PM Modi said.
He described the recent Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed, as the “most barbaric face of terrorism” and said it caused personal pain. “The enemy has now realised the consequences of removing ‘sindoor’ from the forehead of our women,” he said.
PM Modi said Operation Sindoor—launched on May 7 to avenge the attack, demonstrated India’s will to act. “More than 100 dreaded terrorists were slaughtered… When our missiles and drones destroyed terror sites in Pakistan, not just the buildings but their spirit was demolished,” he said.
Rejecting any separation between terrorists and their state sponsors, the Prime Minister said, “We will not see separately terrorists and their state sponsors. This is not an era of war, but it is also not an era of terrorism.”
He added that peace was not possible unless Pakistan dismantled its terror infrastructure.
PM Modi also saluted the Indian armed forces for executing precision strikes, including drone and missile attacks that damaged key Pakistani air bases. “The world has seen how Pakistani drones were downed by our military might,” he said.
Concluding his address, PM Modi dedicated Operation Sindoor to the “mothers, sisters, and daughters of the country” and said India has drawn a new line in its fight against terrorism
