India T20 World Cup squad announced: Ishan Kishan makes comeback; Shubman Gill, Jitesh Sharma dropped
The BCCI on Saturday (December 20) announced the squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to take place in February-March.Β The management made some big calls as vice-captain Shubman Gill was dropped from the side. Wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma was also excluded from the side and Ishan Kishan has been called up as the second choice keeper-batter. To balance the lower order, Men in Blue has included Rinku Singh as an option for middle order.
India head into the tournament as the defending champions, and will begin on February 7 against the USA, which will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The much anticipated clash against Pakistan will be India’s third match in the tournament and will be played in Colombo on February 15.
The Men in Blue are pooled in Group A alongside Pakistan, USA, Netherlands, and Namibia.
The same team will also play the 5-match T20I series against New Zealand at home which takes in January next month. The Kiwis series will be a good rehearsal for the players to get the momentum going ahead of the World Cup
