Iran says ceasefire terms ready, rejects US demands as ‘excessive’ and ‘ultimatum-driven
Iran says it has sent ceasefire terms through intermediaries while rejecting US ultimatums, as the Strait of Hormuz crisis fuels wider regional conflict
Tehran says it has conveyed its demands through intermediaries, even as regional strikes widen and tensions over the Strait of Hormuz escalate.
Iran has formulated its positions and demands in response to recent ceasefire proposals conveyed through intermediaries, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday, according to a report by Reuters, adding that negotiations were “incompatible with ultimatums and threats to commit war crimes.”
Foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran had outlined a set of requirements based on its national interests, which have already been communicated via intermediary channels, the Reuters report said.
Baghaei said previous US demands, including a reported 15-point plan, were rejected for being “excessive,” according to Reuters.
“Iran does not hesitate to clearly express what it considers its legitimate demands, and doing so should not be interpreted as a sign of compromise, but rather as a reflection of its confidence in defending its positions,” he said during a press conference.
He added that Iran had “formulated our own responses” and would announce details in due course, in response to a question on ongoing ceasefire efforts between Iran and the United States.
The remarks come as tensions escalate further following a deadline set by Donald Trump, who has warned Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday or face potential attacks on critical infrastructure, including power plants and bridges.
Iran has warned of retaliatory action in response to any such strikes.
On the ground, hostilities have continued to escalate across the region.
An Iranian missile struck a residential building in Haifa, Israel, killing at least four people, according to medics.
Iranian attacks have also extended across the Gulf, with power, water desalination and oil facilities hit in Kuwait, and an oil installation targeted in Bahrain.
The developments underscore the widening scope of the conflict, with diplomatic efforts continuing through intermediaries even as military activity intensifies across multiple fronts.
Iran’s latest remarks indicate a firm negotiating posture, even as the possibility of a ceasefire remains uncertain
