Jammu Division Accounts for 92% of EWS Certificates in J&K
More than 24,500 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates have been issued in the Jammu division over the past two years, while the Kashmir Valley has recorded a significantly lower figure of just 2,013 certificates, according to government data.
Statistics accessed by the news agency that a total of 26,558 EWS certificates have been issued across Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, 24,545 certificates were granted in the Jammu division alone.

District-wise data indicates that Kathua tops the list with 6,972 certificates, followed by Jammu district with 5,881 and Samba with 4,436. In the Kashmir division, Anantnag reported the highest number of certificates at 483, followed by Kulgam with 390 and Baramulla with 332.
The government clarified that all applications are scrutinized strictly in accordance with prescribed rules and guidelines. It emphasized that EWS certificates are rejected only when applicants do not meet the eligibility criteria laid down under SRO 518 of 2019.

The government further stated that cases involving shared residential property with married siblings or other legal co-owners are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and applications are denied only when the stipulated conditions are not satisfied.
