Jammu News: Dr Jitendra visits flood-hit villages on Zero Line, launches nano technology driven filtration unit

In order to provide a succor to flood hit areas in border belt of Hiranagar and prevent spread of epidemic through water borne diseases, Union Minister in PMO with independent Charge of Science and Technology and Earth Science Ministries, Dr Jitendra Singh today installed a Rs 50 lakh worth filtration Unit of nano technology in the border village near Zero Line.

Dr Jitendra Singh said besides the filtration plant, small water filters have been also provided to people for purifying the water and protect them from epidemic.

He said installation of Nano Technology based modern filtration plant in this border belt is a new experience. He said after lot of research it was found that installation of such filtration plant is a necessity in the area where recent floods had created havoc as entire agriculture land of the villagers was inundated in flood waters.

Dr Jitendra Singh said though district administration led by DC Kathua and SDM managed to get the water depleted from the fields but the assessment of the damage caused to the crops will be made and the effected people will be compensated accordingly.

He said these families are living on IB and they guard the borders along security forces. Maintaining that the Government is most concerned for their welfare, Dr Jitendra Singh said β€œwe are chalking out strategy how to tide out aftermath affects of floods.”

Dr Jitendra Singh also visited the flood-affected areas along the International Border in Hiranagar in Kathua district. He also visited Paharpur village along the Zero Line of the Indo-Pak International Border, which was badly affected by floods.

Dr Jitendra Singh met the victims and assured them of all possible help in their rehabilitation. On the occasion, he distributed relief material among the victims. The Minister also visited the dilapidated house of one of the affected person Roop Lal and spent some time with the family, and had tea served by them. He interacted with locals who narrated the loss to their standing crops due to inundation.

Dr. Jitendra Singh directed the District Administration to expedite the crop damage assessment so that compensation can be provided to the affected farmers at the earliest. He further informed that the District Administration has already submitted the list of houses fully or partially damaged for relief under the SDRF norms.

Earlier, Dr Jitendra Singh visited a relief camp organised for the flood-affected people. On the occasion, he inspected mobile and domestic water filter and purifying units and handed them over to the District Administration for installation in the affected areas so that the victims can have access to safe drinking water in this difficult time. Dr Singh said these units will serve the sanitation needs of the flood-affected people and help prevent spread of water-borne diseases in the calamity-struck areas.

Dr Jitendra Singh said the domestic water purifier units are designed for household use and can purify drinking water without the need for electricity, while the mobile water purifying unit, with a capacity of 3000-4000 litres per hour, can draw water from any source and runs on power from the vehicle on which it is installed. The launch of these units is expected to strengthen safe drinking water access in vulnerable areas.

Later, Dr Jitendra Singh visited Border Out Post, BOP-Paharpur where he was given a detailed briefing on the role of the border force during the rescue and relief operations at the time of floods in the area. On the occasion, he addressed the jawans to appreciate their work during the natural disaster, saying they played an important role in saving precious lives. He underlined that the jawans remained at the forefront and reached the affected people even before the local civil administration.

Dr Jitendra Singh also sipped a cup of tea with the jawans. He informed the gathering that the Government of India is committed to building the multi-purpose dam on Ujh river.

On the last leg of his visit, Dr Jitendra Singh reached the flood affected people in border area of Ramgarh in Samba district. He also met BSF personnel at BOP Tanwar, Kamore in Samba. He assured that the Government is ready to provide all kinds of assistance to the local administration in the rehabilitation of the flood affectees. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already pledged all help for the victims.

Dr Jitendra Singh said that he has been visiting the flood affected parts of his Parliamentary constituency. β€œLast week, I visited Udhampur to reach out to the victims myself, distributing relief material and showing solidarity with them,. Besides I also reviewed the restoration work on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway,” he added.

He was also accompanied by MLA Hiranagar Vijay Sharma and other party leaders of the area.
