J&K Assembly passes Private Universities Bill

The passage of the bill is expected to facilitate the establishment of private universities in Jammu and Kashmir and strengthen the region’s higher education infrastructure
Jammu, Apr 04: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Saturday passed the Private Universities Bill, aimed at expanding higher education opportunities in the Union Territory.
The passage of the bill is expected to facilitate the establishment of private universities in Jammu and Kashmir and strengthen the region’s higher education infrastructure.
According to the Office of the Chief Minister, the legislation seeks to create avenues for quality education within the Union Territory and reduce the need for students to move outside for higher studies. It is also aimed at attracting reputed institutions to invest in the region.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Education Minister Sakina Itoo and other stakeholders on the passage of the bill.
The government said the move is part of its broader efforts to improve access to higher education and provide more options to students within Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS).
