J&K Transporters suspend Dec 15 strike
All J&K Transport Welfare Association (AJKTWA) today suspended its ‘Chakka-Jam strike on December 15, after meeting with Transport Minister, Satish Sharma in presence of other senior officers of the department.
Chairman of the J&K Transporters Association, Karan Singh Wazir said that as the Association called for the strike to highlight the long-pending issues faced by the transport community, Transport Minister Satish Sharma intervened and convened an urgent high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat this afternoon.
The meeting was attended by senior administrative officials, including the Transport Secretary Avny Lavasa, Additional Secretary, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, IGP Traffic J&K, MD JKSRTC, Joint Transport Commissioner, two RTOs and several officer bearers of the Association.
During the meeting, which lasted for more than two hours, Minister gave the transporters a patient and comprehensive hearing. Several key issues were discussed and the assurances were made by the Government.
On the issue of e-buses schedule and routes, the Minister assured that the matter will be resolved within two weeks. On the issue of fare revision, the Minister directed the department to expedite the process, noting that the file has already been sent to the Finance Department for approval.
On e-challans, the IG Traffic informed that around 27,000 challans are under scrutiny and the casual challans will not lead to blacklisting; only serious cases will be considered. He said that e-challaning and enforcement monitoring will be strictly implemented through authorized devices.
On the issue of fitness fee hike, the Association was assured that the fee will be reviewed and brought down as per the policy provisions.
For Automated Testing Stations (ATS), the Association requested an extension for compliance, Minister assured that the request for an extension of upto four months will be taken up with MoRTH in view of genuine difficulties shared by the transporters.
Wazir further informed that on the issue of pending payments pertaining to PM rallies, Operation Sindoor, Khelo India, and the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, assurance was given that these dues would be released in a time bound manner.
After receiving time-bound assurances from the Transport Minister, the All J&K Transport Welfare Association has decided to defer the strike.
The Association will wait for two weeks as assured by the Minister and will reconvene for a General Body Meeting thereafter, to decide the next course of action based on the progress made.
The meeting was also attended by Vijay Singh Chib, Mohd Shabir, Parvinder Singh, Bharat Bhushan, Anan Sharma, Ranjit Singh, Mohd Yousuf, Abdul Majid, Showkat Ali, Sanjeev Choudhary, Vijay Dogra, Gurdeep Singh, Irshad, Mudasir and others.
