‘Israel succeeded in dragging US into quagmire of war with Iran’: Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani
Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said that all bases and assets of hostile forces in the region are considered legitimate military targets under Iran’s right to self-defence.
He added that Iran will continue to defend itself until aggression ends, while remaining committed to respecting the sovereignty of neighbouring countries, and accused Israel of involving the United States in a conflict with Iran.
His remarks came during an emergency special session of the Security Council at UN Headquarters in New York on Saturday (local time) to address the situation in Iran and the Middle East.
Iravani said that Israel “succeeded in dragging the United States into the quagmire of war with Iran”.
“All bases, facilities and assets of the hostile forces in the region shall be regarded as legitimate military objectives within the framework of Iran’s lawful exercise of self-defence. Iran will continue to exercise its right of self-defence decisively and without recitation until the aggression ceases in full and unequivocal terms. Iran remains firmly committed to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbouring countries,” he said.
The board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is set to hold an emergency session on Monday at 08:00 to address the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, as reported by Al Jazeera.
The meeting, requested by Russia, comes ahead of the board’s already scheduled quarterly session, where Iran’s nuclear program was to be discussed. Diplomats noted that, unlike US strikes last year, Iran’s nuclear facilities were not reportedly targeted in Saturday’s attacks, as reported by Al Jazeera.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is dead, Iranian state media reported early Sunday.

US President Donald Trump said hours earlier that Khamenei was killed in a joint American-Israeli operation targeting Iran.
A major attack launched by Israel and the United States killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, President Donald Trump said Saturday, announcing an assassination that he said gave Iranians their “greatest chance” to “take back” their country but that also put the future of the Islamic Republic in doubt and raised the risk of regional instability.
“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead,” Trump wrote in a social media post. He warned of “heavy and pinpoint bombing” that he said would continue throughout the week and even beyond, part of a lethal assault the U.S. has justified as necessary to disable the country’s nuclear capabilities.

Heightened regional tensions in the Gulf prompted multiple security alerts in Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Saturday, following drone and missile activity linked to escalating US–Iran–Israel confrontations. Authorities reported incidents affecting key sites, including Dubai International Airport and the Burj Al Arab, as precautionary measures were swiftly implemented to ensure public safety.
The incident follows joint US–Israeli missile strikes on Iran, which triggered large explosions in Tehran and other cities on Saturday, escalating fears of a wider regional conflict. In retaliation, Iran has targeted Israeli and US assets across the Gulf.
Dubai Airports confirmed that a concourse at Dubai International Airport sustained minor damage in a separate incident. Four staff were injured but received prompt medical attention, and most terminals had already been cleared as part of contingency plans.

Israel Iran War News: In familiar ritual, Israelis race back and forth to shelters to escape Iranian missile barrages
Tensions in central Israel escalated on Saturday as waves of Iranian missile strikes forced residents into bomb shelters repeatedly throughout the day, following a major US–Israeli attack on Iran. In many poorer districts, apartments lack adequate shelters, leaving residents reliant on public spaces for safety.
In Jaffa, a mixed Arab-Jewish neighbourhood of Tel Aviv, over 100 people—including Muslim families with young children, religious Jews from a nearby seminary, and at least a dozen dogs—crowded into a public shelter beneath a park. Some sprawled on mattresses, played cards or shared snacks, while observant Muslims broke their Ramadan fast at sundown in the confined space. Mobile phones provided a lifeline as sirens blared continuously.
Residents described both exhaustion and solidarity. Idit Cohen noted how strangers helped each other, including one man volunteering to drive her son to reserve military duty despite observing the Jewish sabbath. “We see families with babies and young kids here, but there are elderly people that aren’t able to keep running all day,” she said.
After more than two years of intermittent conflict with Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthi forces and Iran, Israelis are familiar with the routine of sirens, shelters, and missile defences. Magen David Adom reported that a woman died in Tel Aviv from an Iranian strike and treated at least 90 people with minor injuries, plus one critically injured man.
Shelter access remains uneven. While new buildings include reinforced safe rooms, poorer areas—particularly Arab and Bedouin communities—often lack protection, forcing some families to construct improvised shelters. Despite the strain, residents expressed hope that enduring hardship could prevent future threats. By nightfall, dozens of missiles had been launched at Israel, with the military intercepting many, and the country remained on high alert, schools and gatherings cancelled nationwide.

‘One of the most evil people in history’: Trump announces Khamenei killed in US-Israel strike
“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead. This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS. He was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do. This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country. We are hearing that many of their IRGC, Military, and other Security and Police Forces, no longer want to fight, and are looking for Immunity from us. As I said last night, “Now they can have Immunity, later they only get Death!” Hopefully, the IRGC and Police will peacefully merge with the Iranian Patriots, and work together as a unit to bring back the Country to the Greatness it deserves. That process should soon be starting in that, not only the death of Khamenei but the Country has been, in only one day, very much destroyed and, even, obliterated. The heavy and pinpoint bombing, however, will continue, uninterrupted throughout the week or, as long as necessary to achieve our objective of PEACE THROUGHOUT THE MIDDLE EAST AND, INDEED, THE WORLD!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Israel Attacks Iran: IAF chief hails ‘most significant’ sortie in Iran
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have released footage of Israeli Air Force (IAF) fighter jets taking off this morning for a massive, coordinated strike campaign across Iran.
According to military reports, roughly 200 fighter jets were involved in the operation, successfully hitting over 500 military targets. The strikes focused on dismantling critical Iranian infrastructure, including ballistic missile launch sites and sophisticated air defense batteries.
In a recorded message shared by the military, IAF Chief Maj Gen Tomer Bar addressed his officers, characterizing the mission as the most significant sortie to date. “This allows me to tell you at this moment, we have started off on the right foot,” Bar stated, praising the precision and scale of the air campaign.
The military emphasised that the synchronisation of such a large number of aircraft across Iranian airspace was achieved through high-level intelligence and long-term strategic planning.
The IDF noted that by neutralising these defence systems, the IAF has effectively secured expanded air superiority over Iran, significantly hampering the regime’s ability to launch offensive operations from its central and western regions

One specific site neutralised in the Tabriz area was part of a ballistic missile unit that the IDF claims was preparing to launch dozens of missiles toward Israel. The military emphasised that the synchronisation of hundreds of aircraft simultaneously marks a historical milestone for the Israeli Air Force in its efforts to dismantle the regime’s strategic threats.

All four injured individuals have been transferred to medical facilities for treatment, according to Al-Jazeera.
Israel carried out a daylight strike on Tehran on Saturday, targeting areas near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Smoke was seen rising from downtown Tehran, though it was unclear if Khamenei was present. Israeli defence minister Israel Katz described the operation as “to remove threats,” without providing further details.
The strike coincides with increased US military presence in the region, including fighter jets and warships, aimed at pressuring Iran over its nuclear programme. Tehran has warned that any escalation could target American personnel and bases.
Explosions were reported across Tehran, prompting Iran to shut down its airspace and issue warnings to pilots. In Israel, sirens blared nationwide, with the military advising civilians to be prepared for possible missile attacks and to stay close to bomb shelters.
The situation disrupted international travel, with passengers at Tel Aviv airport, including those on Air India flights, asked to leave their baggage and move to shelters. Air India has suspended operations in the sector for a week to monitor the evolving situation.
While the full extent of casualties remains unknown, the attack represents a significant escalation in regional tensions, with Israel, Iran, and the United States closely watching the unfolding developments.
