Mirwaiz placed under house arrest ahead of Friday prayers
Srinagar, Aug 06 (KB): Kashmir prominent religious leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was put under house arrest to prevent his Friday sermon at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, who manages the affairs of the mosque said that the authorities have informed Mirwaiz Umar that he will not be allowed to attend the congregational prayers.
The move has sent jitters among his followers because, ever since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the Mirwaiz has mostly been under house arrest.
However, there was no official reason given for the house arrest, anjuman said.—(KB)
