Noida picnic turns catastrophic as student drowns in water-filled plot
The incident has once again raised questions about safety enforcement in Noida, particularly around abandoned or under-construction sites.

In a tragic incident, a university student drowned after falling into a water-filled pit at a vacant plot in Noida’s Sector 94, News 18 reported quoting the Police.

Three other students who were with him were rescued and are currently undergoing medical treatment, the same portal added.
Reportedly, the four students, all enrolled at a university, had gone on a picnic outing after completing their examinations. During the outing, they entered an unfenced vacant plot where a deep pit filled with rainwater posed a serious hazard.
The lack of barricades or warning signs is believed to have contributed to the incident.
News 18 reported that DCP Noida Saad Miya Khan speaking to reporters said police received information earlier in the day from the Sector 126 police station area about several youths drowning.
“Teams from the police, fire department, SDRF and NDRF were immediately rushed to the spot, and the youths were rescued,” News 18 reported quoting him. “In this incident, one youth has died and the body has been sent for postmortem. The others were rescued by the police,” the DCP added.
The incident has once again raised questions about safety enforcement in Noida, particularly around abandoned or under-construction sites.
It comes months after the death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who drowned on January 16, after his car plunged into an unmarked, 70-foot-deep water-filled construction pit near Sector 150 during dense fog.

Mehta remained trapped for over 90 minutes, desperately calling his father for help while standing on his car roof.
The case sparked widespread outrage over delayed rescue efforts and the absence of safety measures.
