The Northern Railways on Monday announced the restoration of eight more long-distance passenger trains in what it called the “fourth phase” of resumption.
Persistent rainfall over the past week had forced large-scale cancellations and early terminations of several trains in the region.
Low-lying stretches of the railway track, affected by water accumulation and damage, had been declared unsafe, leading to significant disruption for passengers.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jammu, Vivek Kumar, has been personally reviewing different sections of the railway line with technical teams to monitor safety standards.
“Safety checks have been conducted on all vulnerable stretches before permitting resumption,” officials confirmed.
A spokesperson for Northern Railways said the fourth phase of restoration marks a significant step in bringing services back to pre-disruption levels. “Eight trains are being re-operated in the Jammu division from today,” the spokesperson said.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SDCM) Uchit Singhal emphasised that passenger safety remains the top priority.
“These trains are being reinstated after ensuring the safety and continuity of the railway track. Train operations in the division are being gradually normalised as soon as technical work on the railway track and bridges is completed,” he said.
The continuous rainfall in the Jammu region, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding, has led to severe inconvenience for passengers, with many left stranded or forced to make alternate arrangements. Officials said the stepwise resumption of services is aimed at reducing passenger hardship while avoiding undue risks.
With the latest restoration, Northern Railways has now resumed several key services that connect Jammu with other parts of the country.
Authorities indicated that further phases of resumption would follow, depending on weather conditions and completion of pending repair work.
Railway officials urged passengers to check updated train schedules before travelling, as timings may vary due to ongoing technical work.
