Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday introduced a legislative proposal in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly aimed at facilitating the establishment and incorporation of private universities across Jammu and Kashmir.

The proposed legislation, officially titled “A Bill for the Establishment and Incorporation of Private Universities in Jammu and Kashmir and for Ensuring Academic Standards to Safeguard Quality Education and Protect the Interests of Students” (L.A. Bill No. 08 of 2026), seeks to promote quality higher education while ensuring regulatory oversight and student welfare.
