Severe heat wave grips Jammu; Samba hottest at 44 deg C

Severe heat wave continues to grip many parts of Jammu region for the past few days while Samba recorded the highest temperature of 44 degrees Celsius in the region.

The weatherman has predicted severe heat wave conditions in Jammu region during next five days, with slight disturbance in the weather on Monday evening. Windstorm in some parts of Jammu region followed by thundershowers on the evening of June 9 has been predicted.

Chief Scientist, Agrometeorology Department of SKUAST-Jammu, Dr Mahender Singh said that Jammu recorded season’s highest temperature today. He said during next 5-6 days the temperature in the region will further increase.

However, on Monday evening, windstorm, followed by brief spell of rain in some parts of the region has been expected.

Singh said increasing intensity of ultra-violet rays has been posing threat to the health of the people during these hot days. The general public must avoid to face direct sun during the peak hours, specially, between 11 am to 4 pm. The children and the elderly persons must be protected from the impact of ultra-violet rays during noon and it is advised to all the people to consume much fluid during these days, Dr Singh added.

Responding to another question, the SKUAST’s Chief Scientist said, ” Monsoon is advance by one week this year. Monsoon is expected to enter J&K during third week of June. The pre-monsoon showers are expected in Jammu area on June 20-21, ” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, a MeT official said that the weather will remain almost dry and hot during next five days. He said Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 42.7 degrees Celsius which is highest so far during this season. The Temple City recorded the maximum temperature of 40.2 deg C on Saturday.

Samba recorded a maximum temperature in very closer to 44 degrees. It was highest in the region. It is expected that temperature of Jammu, Samba and Kathua may further increase during next couple of days.
Holy township of Katra recorded a maximum temperature of 38.2 deg C on Sunday, Bhaderwah 31.8, Banihal town 32.5 while Batote a maximum temperature of 32.3 deg C. The day temperature in Rajouri remained 35.9 deg C, Poonch 35.4, Kishtwar 30.9 while in Reasi town it was 38.5 deg Celsius.

Srinagar today recorded a maximum temperature of 31.9 deg C which was about 4 degrees above normal for the day. Famous tourist resort of Gulmarg recorded the day temperature of 22.2 deg C, Pahalgam 27.8 and Kokernag town 30.9 deg C today
