Shah to visit J&K for 3 days from Feb 5-7 for high-level security review

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Jammu and Kashmir for three days from February 5 to 7 for comprehensive review of security situation, meeting with political leaders and launch of various developments projects.

Official sources told that Shah will reach Jammu at 5 PM on February 5 and will straightway reach the Lok Bhawan where he will meet the political leaders the same evening.

He will visit the International Border at Hiranagar in Kathua district in the morning of February 6 and inspect new gadgetry installed by the BSF for plugging infiltration from across the border. In the afternoon, he will hold high-level review of security situation at the Lok Bhawan here.

On February 7 morning, the Home Minister will leave Jammu for Srinagar where he will launch various development projects for Jammu and Kashmir.

In the afternoon of February 7, Shah will leave Srinagar for Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

This will be Shah’s second high-level review of security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir in less than a month. He assessed the situation at a meeting in New Delhi on January 8. This was followed by visit of Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and top brass of paramilitary forces to Jammu on January 14 and 15.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials of the Union Home Ministry, heads of paramilitary forces and senior officers of civil and police administration besides Intelligence agencies from Jammu and Kashmir will attend the security review meeting, called by Shah in Jammu on February 6, among others.

Sources said the Home Ministry is concerned about presence of foreign terrorists in upper reaches of various districts of the Jammu region including Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur and directions have already gone to security agencies to neutralize the terrorists.

“A strategy is in place to neutralize the terrorists through joint operations in entire Jammu and Kashmir,” the sources said, adding the high-level meeting is likely to review the strategy further.

Search operations have been going on in Chatroo area of Kishtwar district besides upper reaches of Billawar in Kathua and some other districts to eliminate the foreign terrorists. An Army soldier was martyred and seven others were injured in Chatroo gun battle. There were reports that a top terrorist was injured in the encounter but escaped. Prior to this, a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit was killed by the security forces in upper reaches of Billawar.

In January 8 security review meeting in New Delhi, Shah assured security forces that all resources will be made available to them in achieving the goal of `terror-free Jammu and Kashmir’. He directed all security agencies to remain alert and continue to work in synergy to ensure that the gains achieved after abrogation of Article 370 are sustained.

He stated that the Government of India is committed to establish lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and completely eliminate terrorism and reiterated zero tolerance policy against terrorism.
