Situation in Doda normal
Situation in mountainous Doda today remained normal with business going as usual in many areas and no news of any untoward incident from any part of the district was reported.
In Doda town, business establishments remained close and no vehicular movement was seen while Bhadarwah town had no effect of the protest.
“All shops and other business establishments in Bhadarwah functioned as usual and the roads remained busy with vehicular movements but educational institutions remained close,” a resident of Bhadarwah informed.
However, there was no protest demonstration in the district and no procession or rally was taken out today.
It is pertinent to mention here that protests erupted in Doda district two days back after the detention of legislator Mehraj Malik representing Doda Assembly constituency under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).
In a press conference on Thursday, DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, Shridhar Patil said they held a meeting with prominent citizens of Doda for ensuring peace in the region.
“Those who attended the meeting highlighted difficulties being faced by the public and also suggested measures for removing the same,” Patil said adding that the meeting remained a good confidence building measure.
He said that prominent citizens of Doda during the meeting voiced for provision of essential supplies, assessment of losses suffered by the flood hit families and discussions on how to bring the situation to normalcy were also held.
“Situation in entire Chenab valley by and large is under control and we are working to bring the situation under normalcy and the public has supported us a lot in this regard,” DIG Patil maintained.
He also said that many people came forward to guide the youth properly.
“At some places we used tear gas but ensured that no loss to property or public takes place,” Patil further said adding: “The people of Doda have set an example of brotherhood and we expect the same for future also.”
He informed that 60-70 protesters were detained earlier and many of them were released
However, teams of security personnel and local police remained deployed today also at every sensitive and busy areas in the district to avoid any untoward incident.
Locals informed that mobile internet services were snapped along with WIFI and restrictions remained in force today also under Section 163 of BNSS Act.
Concertina wire was installed at many places especially near Government offices to avoid entry of mobs.
Police vehicles remained busy appealing the people to remain indoors and co-operate the administration in maintaining peace in the region while the educational institutions will be closed in the district till Sunday as per a Government order
