1. President’s Rule Extended in Manipur

  • The central government has extended President’s Rule in Manipur by six months, effective from 13 August 2025. This move follows the continued absence of a stable state government amid ongoing ethnic tensions. A resolution by Home Minister Amit Shah has been tabled and accepted in the Rajya Sabha.

2. India–U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Dialogue

  • India’s Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) held a bilateral technical meeting with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) from 6–8 August in Maryland. Discussions focused on nuclear safety, advanced reactor regulation, emergency preparedness, and codes and standards. The initiative supports India’s plan to expand nuclear energy capacity to 100 GW by 2047.

3. Infiltration Bid Foiled in Uri, J&K

  • Indian Army forces successfully intercepted and neutralized an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector. Operations are still underway to ensure complete security in the area.

4. Spectacular Perseid Meteor Shower Peaks

  • The Perseid Meteor Shower reached its peak on the night of 12–13 August 2025. Known for its brilliance, the shower offers a stunning sky spectacle, though visibility may be slightly affected by a bright Moon. A rare conjunction of Venus and Jupiter added to the view. Best observed after midnight, away from city lights.

5. Power Outages in Nagpur

  • Scheduled power cuts affected several areas in Nagpur due to infrastructure upgrade and maintenance work. Phases of outages were planned across Omkar Nagar, Sadbhavna Nagar, Taj Nagar, Reshimbagh, Nawabpura, Mahal Chowk, Congress Nagar, Gandhibagh, Civil Lines, and Butibori industrial estate. Authorities apologized for the inconvenience.

6. India’s 2030 Commonwealth Games Bid Approved

  • The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officially approved the country’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad proposed as the host city. The final bid documents are to be submitted by 31 August 2025.

7. Economic Pressure from U.S. Tariffs

  • Near-50% U.S. tariffs on Indian exports are placing severe strain on India’s economy, particularly impacting textiles and jewelry sectors. Exports worth $86 billion annually are affected, with GDP growth potentially reducing by up to 60 basis points. India is exploring measures like credit guarantees, evolving trade agreements, and incentives to bolster resilience.
