Darjeeling landslides kill at least 24
Intense rain triggered landslides in the Darjeeling hills, killing at least 24 people. Rescue teams, including the Army and NDRF, are searching for those feared trapped under debris.
Fire in Jaipur’s SMS Hospital ICU kills six critical patients
A blaze broke out in the ICU at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur, reportedly caused by a short circuit. Six critically ill patients died, while others were evacuated.
India-UK naval exercise Konkan-2025 begins
The bilateral naval exercise “KONKAN-2025” between India and the United Kingdom commenced off India’s western coast. The Indian Navy’s carrier battle group including INS Vikrant is participating.

GATE 2026 registration window ends
The last day for submitting applications to GATE 2026 without late fees was 6 October. After today, applicants will have to pay a late fee if they submit between 7–9 October.
Indian rupee to benefit from portfolio inflows
The rupee may receive support from expected foreign portfolio inflows tied to two large IPOs—Tata Capital (~USD 1.75 bn) and LG Electronics India (~USD 1.3 bn). Bond yields are expected to ease as well.
