Mobile internet services blocked at these Parts in Valley, J&K
As tension gripped the Valley after the death of two civilians in army firing on Saturday, authorities imposed restrictions in Srinagar in view of the separatist-called protests over the issue. ‘Partial restrictions’ were imposed in a few parts of the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir, with shops and business outlets closing down in most part of the valley, reports said.
District Magistrate Srinagar has imposed restrictions in areas under Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta and M.R. Gunj police stations of old city Srinagar.
Public transport was also not plying owing to the shutdown. As a precautionary measure, rail services between Baramulla and Bannihal towns have also been suspended. Meanwhile, mobile internet services have also been reportedly blocked in certain areas in south Kashmir, namely Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts.
In the rest of the Valley, the internet speed has been reduced to 128 kbps.
Separatist conglomerate, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has called for a Kashmir Valley-wide protest on Sunday over the killing of youths.
On Saturday, as the situation grew tense in the region, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti spoke to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, expressing anguish over the death of the two civilians, news agency PTI reported.
“The chief minister said every civilian killing, notwithstanding how erroneously made, impairs the political process in the state, which has been put on track after hard work by all political parties,” PTI quoted an official spokesperson of the CM.
