French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the invitation to be the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2024.
India had initially extended an invitation to US President Joe Biden to attend the Republic Day event, but Biden declined.
The invitation follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance as the guest of honor at the Bastille Day parade during the French National Day celebrations in July.

Important Dates

National Consumer Rights Day is celebrated on December 24th to commemorate the passage of the Consumer Protection Act in 1986.
This day highlights the significance of consumer rights and serves as a reminder of the need to protect consumers from various threats in the marketplace.

National & International Appointments

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has granted approval for the appointment of Pramod Agrawal as the Chairman of BSE Ltd from January 17, 2024.
Last week, the board of the exchange had approved the appointment of Agrawal as the chairman of the governing board as the term of current chairman S S Mundra ends on January 16.
In May last year, BSE had appointed Mundra, a retired deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, as the chairman of the bourse.

The Ministry of Textiles has introduced the “Paat-Mitro” mobile application. Developed by The Jute Corporation of India Limited (JCI).
This app aims to provide vital information about Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and agronomy to jute farmers.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has notified Income Tax Return (ITR) forms 1 and 4, meant for the assessment year 2024-25
The forms are applicable for filing income tax returns related to earnings in the preceding year, starting from the 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024
ITR forms for a particular financial year are notified by the end of March or early April
Forms 1 and 4 are filed by individuals and entities with annual total income of up to 50 lakh rupees
