An army officer has los his life in an ongoing gunfight in the Assar area of Jammu’s Patnitop area, the Army said Wednesday.

The army said that the officer was injured during a search operation in the area even as they have recovered “war-like stores” from the spot.

“Op Assar: Update Search for the terrorists continues amidst a heavy firefight. One officer has been injured while leading the search party. War-like stores have been recovered as operations continue,” the army’s White Knight Corps posted on their official X-handle.

The injured officer, as per officials, has succumbed and was identified as Captain Deepak of 48 RR. (KDC)

An encounter started on Tuesday between the security forces and terrorists in the Assar forests of the Doda district, which is located next to the famous Patnitop tourist site.

Officials said that over specific information about the presence of some suspected terrorists in the Assar area, an operation was launched jointly by the Army and Police during which contact with the terrorists was established and an encounter started.

Confirming details, the Army said that the Army and Police teams launched an operation based on specific intelligence inputs in Asar Forest near Patnitop.

“Contact has been established with the terrorists and an operation is in progress,” the Army said.
