Respite for 35 Kashmiri students suspended by Rajasthan university for Protesting
Kashmir News : On Monday, the University had informed that it had filed a contempt petition against the Rajasthan Nursing Council (RNC) over the delay in granting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the university and empaneling the University in the approved list of institutions, and the court case is ongoing.
The Chittorgarh-based Mewar University on Tuesday revoked the suspension of 35 Kashmiri students of BSc (Nursing) who had been protesting the lack of approval for the course. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) had raised the issue with J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s office, following which his advisor Nasir Aslam Wani had taken it up with the Rajasthan government officials on Tuesday.
An order by the University Registrar Pradeep Dey on Tuesday said, “Taking into consideration the request of the Kashmiri students studying in Mewar University and on the advice of the government administration, university administration hereby immediately revokes the above suspension order.” It also said that the “university administration is in discussion with the students to amicably resolve the issue of B.Sc. Nursing program”.
After the suspension of 35 students of B.Sc. (Nursing) 2nd year on Saturday “for nuisance and deplorable acts,” the JKSA had expressed “deep concern.” Its National Convenor Nasir Khuehami had said that these students have been protesting for the past three days due to the university’s failure to secure the necessary approvals from the RNC and Indian Nursing Council (INC) for the B.Sc. Nursing course, and that the absence of these crucial approvals jeopardises the academic future of these Kashmiri students.
On Tuesday evening, J&K’s higher education minister Sakina Itoo tweeted, “Regarding J&K students in Rajasthan: I am receiving distress calls from students alleging that the university is threatening to rusticate them. I have taken up the matter with Hon’ble CM who has assured to take up the same with Hon’ble CM of Rajasthan to resolve the issue.”–(The Indian Express)
