Kashmir News: NCB Srinagar busts major narcotics smuggling network; three arrested

In one of the biggest banned drugs hauls of the year, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Srinagar Zone, busted a smuggling racket in south Kashmir with the seizure of over 10.7 kg of charas and the arrest of three accused.

Officials said acting on specific intelligence, NCB Srinagar conducted a targeted operation in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag district on August 19, which led to the seizure of about 10.735 kg of charas, one of the biggest charas seizures of the current year.

The arrested accused were identified as Firdous, a resident of Bijbehara Anantnag; Jan Mohammad Baba of Lal Bazar, Srinagar, and Mohammad Lateef of Srigufwara, Anantnag. In a statement NCB said that verification of their criminal background revealed that Firdous has previously booked in other NDPS cases, registered against him at police station Bijbehara & NCB Jammu, and Jan Mohammad Baba has previously booked in an NDPS case registered by NCB Jammu.

“During the identification of backward and forward linkages in the case, it was gathered that the said contraband was procured from a person, Mohammad Lateef, who has also been arrested in the case, and was also facilitating its inter-state transport via illicit channels,” the statement said.

Officials said the seizure underscores the importance of the NCB’s Srinagar office, established as part of the union government’s strategy to bolster the fight against narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir.

“NCB remains committed to disrupting the drug trade and associated activities, protecting the youth from its harmful impact, finding and ensuring stronger inter-agency coordination across the union Territory,” the statement said.
