Where a Recruitment Test forms part of selection, candidates must clear the minimum level of suitability at both the RT stage and the interview stage for their respective category.

The minimum level of suitability in interview, irrespective of whether selection is by interview alone or RT plus interview, is: UR – 50 marks, OBC – 45 marks, SC/ST/PH – 40 marks, out of a total of 100 interview marks.

Where the number of applications is large, UPSC may apply shortlisting criteria such as desirable qualifications, higher educational qualifications, higher relevant experience, or a Recruitment Test, to restrict the number of candidates called for interview.

Recruitment Test / Combined Recruitment Test, where held, is ordinarily conducted at: Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi, and Visakhapatnam. The list of centres is subject to change and will be notified on the Commission’s website.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) can apply for any post listed as “suitable” for their category, even if that specific post is not reserved for PwBD; such candidates are considered by the general standard of merit unless the post carries a PwBD reservation.

Only persons with 40% or more of the relevant disability are eligible for the benefit of reservation and other relaxations under PwBD provisions.

Where sufficient PwBD candidates are not available for posts exclusively reserved and identified suitable for them, the required years of experience (not the nature of experience) may be relaxed by up to 50%.

Scribe facility is available to PwBD candidates in the categories of blindness, both-arms-affected locomotor disability, and cerebral palsy on request; for other categories, a certificate of physical limitation to write from a Government Chief Medical Officer/Civil Surgeon/Medical Superintendent is required.

Face authentication is mandatory for all candidates at the examination venue/interview hall.

Furnishing false particulars, suppressing material information, tampering with documents, or using unfair means can lead to disqualification and debarment from UPSC examinations and Central Government employment.

Canvassing in any form will disqualify a candidate.

Summoning for interview does not guarantee selection; appointment orders are issued by the respective Ministry after selection.
