J&K Higher Education Dept Invites Online Applications for Need-Based Faculty Engagement in Degree Colleges

*Applications Open from July 10 to July 15 for Academic Session 2026–27; Recruitment Through Centralised Online Portal, Engagement in 60+ Subjects*

The Higher Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir, has invited online applications from eligible domiciles of the Union Territory for engagement as Lecturers, Teaching Assistants (TAs), Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) and Librarians on Need-Based Academic Arrangement in Government Degree Colleges for the Academic Session 2026–27.

According to the advertisement, issued by Director Colleges, J&K, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, as per news agency, the online application portal https://jkaa.directorcollegesjk.in will remain open from 9:00 AM on July 10, 2026, till 5:00 PM on July 15, 2026. No physical applications shall be accepted.

The engagement shall be made in terms of Government Order No. 137-JK(HE) of 2024 dated March 1, 2024, and the eligibility, remuneration, selection process and engagement conditions shall strictly remain governed by the said Government Order.

The Directorate said engagements shall be made purely as per requirement in Government Degree Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir in over 60 disciplines, including Anthropology, Arabic, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Botany, Business Administration, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Applications, Disaster Management, Dogri, Economics, Education, Electronics, English, Environmental Science, Fisheries, Food Science & Technology, Functional English, Geography, Geology, Hindi, History, Home Science, Hospitality & Catering Technology, Information Technology, Islamic Studies, Kashmiri, Library Science, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Music, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Persian, Philosophy, Physical Education, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sericulture, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Tourism & Travel Management, Urdu, Water Management and Zoology.

As per the notification, candidates applying for Lecturer, Librarian and PTI positions must possess a Master’s degree in the relevant subject with at least 55 per cent marks (50 per cent for SC/ST/Differently-Abled candidates) along with NET/SET/SLET or Ph.D. Candidates applying for Teaching Assistant positions must possess a Master’s degree with the prescribed percentage of marks.

The Directorate has specified that only domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir below 60 years of age shall be eligible. Candidates attaining the age of 60 years during the engagement period shall automatically stand disengaged.

The advertisement further states that candidates registered during the previous academic session may log in using their registered email IDs to update qualifications, experience or other details, while fresh applicants shall be required to register with a valid email ID and mobile number.

Fresh applicants will have to upload scanned copies of a recent photograph, domicile certificate, date of birth certificate, Aadhaar card, category or disability certificate, graduation and post-graduation certificates, equivalence certificate wherever applicable, NET/SLET/SET/JRF certificate, M.Phil./Ph.D. certificates and experience certificates.

An online processing fee of ₹200 shall be payable through the integrated payment gateway.

Candidates shall be required to submit college preferences while filling the application form. They may choose colleges from either Jammu Division, Kashmir Division or both, depending upon their willingness to serve. The Directorate clarified that candidates are not required to opt for all colleges and may submit a limited number of preferences. However, preferences may be revised only once during a dedicated Preference Modification Window, to be notified after publication of the Final Merit List and subject-wise vacancies.

The Directorate has also introduced a fully centralised online allotment system, under which allotment shall be made for the entire Union Territory in a single exercise strictly on the basis of merit, candidate preferences and college requirements.

According to the notification, only one college shall be allotted to a candidate in any round, and once allotted, the candidate shall not be considered for any other college during the same academic session. Failure to join the allotted institution within three working days shall result in automatic cancellation of allotment, and such candidates shall not be considered in subsequent rounds.

The Directorate has clarified that separate subject-wise merit lists shall be prepared for Lecturer-category and Teaching Assistant-category candidates. Teaching Assistants shall be considered only in subjects where eligible Lecturer-category candidates are not available.

The advertisement further states that all scrutiny, clarification queries, tentative merit list, objections, final merit list, preference modification and allotment schedules shall be notified only through the online portal.

Candidates have also been advised to avoid visiting offices, as all grievances shall be submitted through the online support centre and routed to the respective Nodal Principals.

The Higher Education Department has reserved the right to add or amend subjects, rectify merit lists or allotments, and make administrative changes wherever required for fair conduct of the recruitment process.

The Directorate has advised applicants to carefully read all terms and conditions before submitting the online application and complete the process well before the closing date to avoid last-minute inconvenience. (JKNS)
