Solar and Lunar Eclipses in August 2026: Dates, Timings and Precautions for Pregnant Women
Solar and lunar eclipses are rare but normal astronomical phenomena. Every year, there are two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses. The first solar and lunar eclipses of 2026 have already occurred, and now the second and final solar and lunar eclipses of the year will take place in August. These interesting celestial events attract considerable interest from an astronomical perspective. However, according to Hindu beliefs, eclipses have deep religious and astrological significance. Due to the special planetary positions during this period, people belonging to all 12 zodiac signs are believed to be affected.
In Hinduism, the eclipse period is considered an inauspicious time. Therefore, auspicious activities are generally avoided during an eclipse, temple doors remain closed, and people engage in chanting mantras or spiritual practices. It is believed that the influence of negative energy increases during an eclipse. Therefore, pregnant women are advised, according to traditional beliefs, to take special precautions, as it is believed that otherwise the unborn child could be adversely affected. Pregnant women are therefore advised to prepare themselves and take precautions before the eclipse.
