JK National Highway Traffic Updates for 8th August 2026
From 04-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 07-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic and rough surface conditions on the road at Dewal, Udhampur, as well as at the single-lane stretch between Nashri and Nachi…. In addition, a breakdown of 04 vehicles between Nashri and Ramban was reported.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the MeT, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of roads from the Traffic Police Headquarters/Control Rooms. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at the J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Traffic managed on a regulated manner at Dewal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic for about 30–40 minutes.
In view of the extensive damage to NH-44 at Dewal, Udhampur, slow movement of vehicles over rough and bumpy surfaces is expected, causing congestion and restricting the non-district movement of local commuters within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. No movement shall be allowed after the cut-off timing of 1200 hrs from the ongoing Amarnath Yatra route, except during the designated convoy period. During the Amarnath Yatra period, passing of Yatra convoys shall be given priority and commuters should accordingly carry sufficient fuel.
Local commuters travelling in private vehicles towards Srinagar are advised to use the old road via Jawahar Tunnel in order to avoid congestion at Lamber (Ramban).
Similarly, commuters travelling to Banihal, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and adjoining areas are advised to use the old road via Patnitop while travelling from Jammu, in order to avoid congestion on NH-44.
Passenger/LWV Operators
Passenger/LWV operators are advised to prefer journeys on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the possibility of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal and the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
Goods Carrier (HMV/LWV) Operators
Goods carrier operators carrying perishable goods are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time. NH-44 will be allowed for alternate days only.
The operators of goods carriers carrying fresh/perishable commodities from Valley towards Jammu are advised to load their vehicles in a timely manner, preferably before 06:00 AM, at designated places between NHW/Yatra Tunnel and Banihal, on the day of the convoy, so that their movement can be facilitated smoothly.
HMV Operators
HMV operators are advised to check the overloading and carrying capacity of their vehicles before proceeding on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journeys on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting-stone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 08-08-2026
Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMV Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
However, HMVs (Goods Carriers) shall be allowed to ply on alternate days. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall issue the necessary advisory before regulating traffic.
HMV/LGV/Carrier Movement
Subject to fair weather, better road conditions and an assessment of the prevailing traffic situation on NH-44, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Jammu (Udhampur) towards Srinagar.
However, no HMV traffic shall be allowed to move after 1800 hrs. TCU Jammu shall coordinate with TCU Ramban before releasing HMVs.
Moreover, in view of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, to provide hassle-free movement to trucks carrying fresh/perishable goods on NH-44, UT Administration has decided that:
Empty tankers of Petrol, Diesel, LPG, CNG etc.
Trucks carrying empty LPG cylinders.
Empty vehicles of FCI.
shall use the Mughal Road while returning to Jammu.
Further, any other vehicle up to 10 tyres carrying perishable commodities shall also use the Mughal Road on the days when the up-convoy for HMVs is scheduled on NH-44, as per the advisory issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu vide No. DivComJ/2026/6456-27 dated 27-06-2026.
Army/HMV Convoy Movement
Army authorities are advised to plan their movement after Army convoy movements, keeping in view the daily NHW advisory. If such a movement is inevitable, Army convoys are requested to maintain proper spacing between vehicles so that the movement of commuters on NH-44 is not hampered.
The convoy is to be released from Nagrota (Jammu) at 06:00 AM and Qazigund at 11:00 AM, after the passage of the Yatra convoys from Jammu and Kashmir ends respectively.
Kishtwar–Banihal–Khanabal NH-244
As per orders issued by the concerned authorities, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting green signals from the road maintenance agencies, LMV Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Kishtwar–Srinagar road, i.e. from Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Panjthir towards Anantnag between 06:00 hrs and 16:00 hrs, and from Dachhan towards Kishtwar between 06:00 hrs and 16:00 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to cut off/stop on the route. TCU Jammu/Ramban and TCU Srinagar shall remain in coordination regarding the road conditions.
NH-1 / Srinagar–Kargil Road
As per the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir vide No. DivCom/Dev/2026/4392-44/0 dated 04-08-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Kargil road.
Vehicles shall move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar, only after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agencies.
Up to 1200 hrs, HMV traffic shall be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar.
Between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar.
No vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Vehicles carrying material and other essential commodities shall be regulated according to the prevailing road conditions.
TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil shall remain in coordination regarding the road condition.
Army convoys moving on the road shall clear their movement in such a manner that civilian traffic is not disturbed.
Mughal Road (NH-144A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after receiving clearance from the road maintenance agency (OREM), vehicle movement on the Mughal Road shall be regulated.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
The vehicles shall be allowed from Dera Gali (Poonch) towards Shopian and Heerapur (Shopian) towards Poonch between 07:00 hrs and 13:00 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the specified cut-off timings.
As per the orders issued by the concerned authorities, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall remain in coordination regarding road conditions.
