Educational Qualification

For Assistant Professor posts, candidates generally require:

A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in the relevant/allied subject.

The degree must be from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.

Subject-Specific Qualifications

Bio-Informatics:
Master’s degree with at least 55% marks at PG level in Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Clinical Biochemistry.

Archaeology:
Master’s degree with 55% marks in Culture & Archaeology, Archaeology, or History with a PG Diploma in Archaeology.

Home Science – Human Development:
PG degree with at least 55% marks in Home Science with specialization in Human Development.

Lifelong Learning:
PG degree with at least 55% marks in Lifelong Learning, Social Work, Sociology, Home Science (Extension & Communication) or Rural Development.

Geo-Informatics:
PG degree with at least 55% marks in Geoinformatics, GIS, Remote Sensing or Applied Geology with PG Diploma in Remote Sensing.

Home Science – Dietetics & Clinical Nutrition:
PG degree with at least 55% marks in Home Science with specialization in Dietetics & Clinical Nutrition.

Iqbal Institute of Culture & Philosophy:
PG degree with at least 55% marks in Urdu or Philosophy. Candidates must also have substantiated research in Iqbal Studies. Ph.D. in Iqbal Studies will be preferred.

NET / SET / Ph.D. Requirement

NET is compulsory for candidates possessing only postgraduate degrees.

Candidates belonging to UT of J&K who are not NET qualified must have SET.

Candidates having a Ph.D. in the concerned subject meeting the applicable UGC regulations may be exempted from NET/SET.

Additional conditions apply to Ph.D. degrees registered before 11 July 2009, including regular-mode Ph.D., external evaluation, viva voce and research publications/presentations.

A Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked among the world’s top 500 by QS, THE or ARWU is also recognized for eligibility.

Grade Point Equivalence

For a seven-point grading scale, Grade B (3.50–4.49) is considered equivalent to 55%–64%.

The advertisement provides the following equivalence:

O: 5.50–6.00 = 75–100%

A: 4.50–5.49 = 65–74%

B: 3.50–4.49 = 55–64%

C: 2.50–3.49 = 45–54%

D: 1.50–2.49 = 35–44%

E: 0.50–1.49 = 25–34%

F: 0.00–0.49 = 0–24%.

How to Apply Online

Candidates have to apply through the University of Kashmir recruitment portal.

Step 1: Visit the University website and open the Jobs/Recruitment section. Read the instructions carefully.

Step 2: Register as an applicant using a valid email ID and mobile number. Keep the username and password safe.

Step 3: Login using the registered credentials.

Step 4: Enter personal details, educational qualifications and experience. Preview the application carefully before submission. No changes are allowed after final submission.

Step 5: Pay the application fee online. The application fee is ₹1,200.

Candidates with benchmark disabilities (PwD) are exempted from the application fee.

Submission of Hard Copy

After submitting the online application, candidates must:

Take a printout of the submitted application.

Attach all required enclosures.

Number the enclosures according to the auto-generated serial numbers.

Attach the online payment acknowledgement.

Properly bind the application.

The hard copy can be submitted personally or through Speed Post/Registered Post to:

Shortlisting and Selection

If a large number of applications are received, candidates may be shortlisted according to the prescribed criteria.

Shortlisting will be done when applications exceed 20 candidates for one advertised post. For each post, 20 candidates will initially be shortlisted, with five additional candidates for every additional post, based on merit.

The final selection will be based only on interview performance.

Shortlisting Criteria

The maximum score is 100 marks:

Graduation: Maximum 15 marks

Post-Graduation: Maximum 25 marks

M.Phil: Maximum 7 marks

Ph.D.: 30 marks

NET with JRF: 7 marks

NET: 5 marks

SLET/SET: 3 marks

Research Publications: Maximum 10 marks

Teaching/Post-doctoral Experience: Maximum 10 marks

Awards: Maximum 3 marks.

For teaching/post-doctoral experience, 2 marks are awarded for each year. If the experience is less than one year, marks will be reduced proportionately.

Reservation and Relaxation

Reservation will be implemented according to S.O. 305 dated 21 May 2024 issued by the UT Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

Candidates seeking exemption from NET/SLET/SET because of Ph.D. must provide the required certificate and Minimum Standards Certificate from the concerned university.

A 5% relaxation at Bachelor’s and Master’s level is available to eligible SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and differently abled candidates for determining eligibility and good academic record.

Candidates with Ph.D. who obtained their Master’s degree before 19 September 1991 with at least 50% marks are also eligible to apply.

NET/SLET/SET is not required for disciplines where no accredited NET/SLET/SET examination is conducted.

Foreign Degree Requirement

Candidates holding postgraduate or Ph.D. degrees from foreign universities must submit an Equivalence Certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. Without this certificate, the candidature will not be considered.

Research Publication Rules

Publications in predatory or dubious journals and presentations at predatory or dubious conferences will not be considered for academic credit.

Research publications from journals indexed in UGC-CARE, Scopus or Web of Science are considered for academic purposes.

Important Conditions

The University reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of vacancies.

The University may decide not to fill any advertised vacancy.

Selected candidates may be transferred between different Satellite Campuses of the University.

Original documents may be demanded at any stage of selection.

Candidates appearing for interviews will not receive TA/DA.

The application fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted.

During probation, appointees are expected to produce quality research publications and undertake a research project.

The vacancies are tentative.

EWS Reservation

For EWS reservation:

The EWS certificate must remain valid up to at least 31 December 2026.

Gross annual family income must be below ₹8 lakh for the relevant financial year.

The prescribed EWS certificate format must be submitted with the application.

If suitable EWS candidates are unavailable, the vacancy may be filled under the UR category.

UR candidates may also apply against EWS posts, but their candidature will be considered only if suitable EWS candidates are unavailable.

Candidates applying under reserved categories must produce valid category certificates issued by the competent authority. Category or Post Code changes will not be permitted after submission of the online application.

A 4% horizontal reservation is provided for Physically Handicapped Category candidates as per applicable University rules. Ex-servicemen will receive benefits as admissible under applicable government rules.

General Instructions

Government employees must submit applications through the proper administrative channel. University employees should route applications through their Registrar, while employees of affiliated institutions must apply through the competent authority. Applications not routed through the proper channel may be rejected.

Late, incomplete or applications submitted on plain paper will not be accepted.

Candidates should regularly check the University website and their applicant profile for updates, instructions and API Score-related information.

Interview call letters will be sent through email/SMS, but candidates are advised to regularly check the University website as the University will not be responsible for technical non-delivery of messages.

All enclosures must be self-attested and arranged in the same order as the serial numbers generated in the application. Incomplete applications or applications without required enclosures will be rejected.

Other Important Instructions

Experience certificates must be issued or authenticated by the competent authority.

False, fabricated or tampered documents may result in permanent or temporary debarment and criminal prosecution.

Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification.

The University will verify candidates’ character, antecedents and documents.

Fake documents or suppression of relevant information can lead to termination of services.

Any addendum, corrigendum or notice will be published only on the University website.

At least three eligible applicants are required to conduct an interview. If fewer eligible candidates are available, the post may be re-advertised.
