JKPSC notified 7502 posts between Aug 2019 and Aug 2025: RTI

As many as 1455 posts notified by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) between August 2019 and August 2025 are still awaiting completion of the selection process.

In the past six years, the commission notified a total of 7502 posts during the six-year period.

The commission, as reply to an RTI, said information relating to posts for which written tests or interviews had already been conducted but the selection process was yet to be completed could not be provided at this stage.

This was due to the selection process for the concerned posts was still underway. The figures have been drawn from an RTI response furnished by the JKPSC to journalist M M Shuja.

The RTI sought details of recruitment, vacancies, expenditure, revenue and pending selections during the period. By the estimates, roughly one in every five posts (19.4 percent) notified during the period remains in the selection process.

The RTI response also provides a detail of the scale of recruitment handled by the commission during these years.  The 7502 posts were advertised across various departments of J&K government.

The commission has also said that there are eight court cases concerning recruitment and selection-related matters.

These include cases involving recruitment to posts under the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department, Physical Education Lecturers, District Sericulture Officers, faculty posts in Government Unani and Ayurvedic Hospital Ganderbal, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety and other matters.

The cases listed include faculty posts in the Government Unani and Ayurvedic Hospital, Ganderbal, besides cases involving Physical Education Lecturer recruitment and District Sericulture Officer selection.

The RTI response also provides year-wise details of the commission’s approved budget and expenditure.

In 2020-21, against an approved budget of Rs 20.93 crore, the expenditure was Rs 41.54 crore.

The approved budget was significantly increased to Rs 165.18 crore in 2021-22. Against this, Rs 68.45 crore was spent.

In 2022-23, the commission had an approved budget of Rs 170 crore and spent Rs 59.45 crore.

In 2023-24, the expenditure dipped to Rs 10.19 crore against an approved budget of Rs 170 crore.

The following year, the spending rose to Rs 61.35 crore against an approved budget of Rs 100 crore in 2024-25 while in 2025-26, the commission had an approved budget of Rs 150 crore and had incurred Rs 109.99 crore in expenditure.

The figures show considerable variation in spending.

Together, the approved budget for the six years for JKPSC was Rs 776.11 crore, against reported expenditure of Rs 350.97 crore.

The commission declined to provide some of the information sought in the RTI application. These include certain voluminous post-wise details.

The commission sais that compiling the information in the format requested would divert the commission’s time and resources.
