TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR

From 17-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 18-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane, undulating and uneven surface of the road at Dawal, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Morang and Kishtwar Patka. In addition to the breakdown of a vehicle at Chinarani.

In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journey only after confirming the status of road from TCU Srinagar/Ramban/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.

Current Traffic Situation

Traffic is being managed in a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to a single-lane stretch of about 30–40 metres.

Passenger/LMV Operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

Goods Carrier (HMV/LMV) Operators carrying fresh/perishable/live stock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time and take extra precautions of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV Owners/Operators are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Vehicle owners must also double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking the journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting-stone areas.

TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 18-08-2026

Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, Passenger/HPVs, Private Cars and HMVs (Good Carrier) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.

Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, as wrong-lane driving may cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.

Army/SF Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road condition, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.

They shall move only after confirming the status of NHW through TCU Ramban.

Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244

As per orders issued by the SDM Chatroo vide No. SDM/C/2026-27/578-58 dated 09-07-2026 and the SDM Kokernag vide No. SDM/K/2026-27/03-88 dated 08-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting signal from traffic control regarding availability of road, LMVs, Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from PP Parray towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timing.

TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

SSG Road

As per order issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir vide No. DivComDev/100/2026/4392-4410 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Kargil towards Srinagar only after receiving green signal from the road maintenance agencies up to 1300 hrs.

However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.

Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains for safe movement on slippery roads. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

SFs convoy moving on the SSG road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civil traffic is not disturbed.

Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREF), vehicular movement of LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres only shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.

These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimandh (Buffliaz) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0900 hrs and 1800 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.

As per directions issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, vide No. DMS/ADM/PS/26-27/231-31 dated 03-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
