TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 23-08-2026, 1600 hrs to 24-08-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single lane, including a diversion of the road at Dawal, Udhampur, as well as the highway stretches between Ramban and Banihal.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from TCU Srinagar/Jammu/Udhampur. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at the J&K Traffic Police Twitter/X handle and Facebook page.
General Traffic Advisory
Traffic is being managed on a regulated basis at Dawal, Udhampur on NH-44, due to a single lane of approximately 30–40 metres.
Passengers/LWV operators are advised to prefer journeys on Jammu–Srinagar NHW during daytime.
Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
Advisory for Oil & Gas Tankers
In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on Digdol–Khooni Nallah side on Jammu–Srinagar NHW, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime.

The movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels between 0700 hrs and 1500 hrs. The movement of tankers shall be allowed beyond 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs.
Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.
Goods Carrier / HMVs
Goods carrier (HMV/LV) operators carrying perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, in view of the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.
HMV Operators
HMV owners/operators are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW.
Vehicle owners should ensure that their vehicles undergo proper maintenance checks and carry sufficient tools before undertaking journeys on the Jammu–Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 25-08-2026
Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars/Heavily loaded vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline.
Overtaking and wrong-lane driving may cause congestion.
TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/Police Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
They shall move after confirming the status of the highway from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per orders issued by the DC Kishtwar vide Order No. SDM/2026-27/578-86 dated 09-07-2026 and the SDM Kokernag vide No. SDM/KNK/2025-26/847-88 dated 09-07-2026, and subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from P.P. Panara towards Anantnag between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs.
Vehicles from Daksum towards Kishtwar shall be allowed between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after 1600 hrs.
TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.
SSG Road
As per order issued by C/DivCom Kashmir vide No. DivComDev/1600/2026/4392-4410 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions:
LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Kargil road.
Vehicles from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar only after receiving a green signal from the concerned agency.
No vehicle shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain more grip on slippery roads.
TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil shall inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.
SSG convoy movements shall be planned in such a manner that civil traffic is not disturbed.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after clearance from the road maintenance agency (R&B), vehicular movement of LMVs followed by HMVs up to 10 tyres only shall be allowed on Mughal Road from both sides:
From Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1100 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian vide No. DM/SH/ADL/PS/2026-27/62 dated 05-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
