The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar has issued an important traffic advisory for commuters travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other important routes in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the advisory, the traffic situation is being monitored in view of inclement weather, rainfall, road conditions, landslides, shooting stones, construction work and ongoing road maintenance activities.

The advisory covers the period from 2 September 2026 at 4:00 PM to 3 September 2026 at 4:00 PM.

Commuters are advised to check the latest road status before starting their journey and follow the directions issued by Traffic Police and other authorities.

Jammu Srinagar NH44 Traffic Update

In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the possibility of rainfall over the next few days, the general public has been advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road.

Commuters can check the latest road status through the J&K Traffic Police Twitter/X handle and Facebook page before travelling.

Traffic is also being managed on a regulated basis at Damel, Udhampur, on NH-44, where a single lane is reportedly available for around 30–40 metres.

Jammu Srinagar NH44 Night Travel Advisory

Passengers and LMV operators have been advised to prefer journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime.

Night travel should be avoided because of the ongoing execution of shooting stones/landslides as well as construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience and safety risks to commuters.

Travellers are therefore advised to plan their journey during daylight hours and avoid unnecessary travel at night.

Banihal-Qazigund Tunnel Traffic Advisory

In view of the ongoing work being undertaken by NHAI on the Qazigund–Banihal area of Jammu-Srinagar NH-44, movement of Kashmir-bound oil tankers may be allowed only during specified hours.

According to the advisory, oil tankers may be allowed to move towards the Kashmir Valley between 0700 hrs and 1500 hrs after confirming the road status and movement conditions.

The movement of up tankers will be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs.

Tankers are advised to proceed in a staggered manner and maintain adequate spacing to avoid unnecessary inconvenience and traffic congestion.

Advisory for Goods Carrier and HMV/LMV Operators

Goods carriers and HMV/LMV operators carrying essential goods and perishable stock have been advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters.

Commuters should be prepared for possible delays because of ongoing construction and road maintenance activities between Ramban and Banihal.

HMV operators and owners have also been requested to avoid overloading their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking a journey on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Drivers should also keep a check on the condition of their vehicles before starting their journey.

Avoid Unnecessary Halt Between Ramban and Banihal

Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near areas affected by landslides and shooting stones.

Unnecessary stopping in vulnerable stretches can create traffic congestion and may increase the risk to both passengers and other road users.

Traffic Plan and Advisory for 4 September 2026

The advisory also provides information regarding the proposed traffic plan for 4 September 2026 on Jammu-Srinagar NH-44.

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, the movement of different categories of vehicles will be regulated according to the prevailing road situation.

LMVs and Private Cars

LMVs and private cars may be allowed to travel from both sides of Jammu-Srinagar NH-44, including:

Jammu towards Srinagar

Srinagar towards Jammu

However, commuters should travel only after confirming the latest status of the highway.

Motorists are advised to follow the instructions of Traffic Police personnel deployed along the route.

HMV and Goods Carrier Movement

HMVs and goods carriers will be regulated according to the road condition and traffic situation.

Drivers should follow the prescribed movement timings and directions issued by the Traffic Police.

Army/Other Convoys

Army and other convoys may also be allowed subject to road conditions and confirmation of the highway status from the concerned traffic control units.

Kirpathur-Antanu NH-244 Traffic Advisory

The advisory also contains directions for the Kirpathur–Antanu section of NH-244.

As per the order issued by the concerned authorities, movement will remain subject to fair weather, good road conditions and confirmation from the road maintenance agency.

LMV passenger/private cars may be permitted to travel from both sides after confirming the road status from the concerned Traffic Control Unit.

The advisory also mentions restrictions concerning HMVs and tankers.

Commuters should confirm the latest traffic status before entering the route because road conditions can change due to weather and maintenance work.

Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road Traffic Advisory

The advisory also provides important instructions for the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road.

Subject to favourable weather and road conditions, LMVs may be allowed to travel from both sides on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road.

The movement of heavy vehicles will remain regulated and subject to confirmation from the Traffic Control Unit.

Drivers are advised to carry anti-skid chains where required, particularly in view of slippery road conditions.

Motorists should avoid overtaking in vulnerable stretches and should maintain adequate distance from other vehicles.

The authorities have also advised commuters to avoid stopping unnecessarily on the highway so that traffic movement remains smooth.

Mughal Road Traffic Advisory

The Mughal Road is also covered under the traffic advisory.

Subject to favourable weather and good road conditions, vehicular movement may be permitted after obtaining clearance from the concerned road maintenance agency.

LMVs may be allowed to travel from both sides, including the Shopian–Poonch and Poonch–Shopian directions, subject to road conditions.

Drivers must follow the instructions of the Traffic Police and road maintenance authorities.

The movement of HMVs and other heavy vehicles will remain subject to the applicable restrictions and road conditions.
