Traffic Police Headquarters J&K Issues Traffic Advisory

Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar has issued a traffic advisory regarding movement on NH-44 and other major roads in view of slow traffic, ongoing construction work and forecast of inclement weather.

NH-44 Traffic Update

From 11-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 12-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic at several stretches, particularly around Udhampur, as well as the Mago and Kishtwar Pather areas. The breakdown of vehicles between Digdoal and Banihal and movement of nomadic herds crossing the Banihal-Kashmir route also affected traffic.

Due to the ongoing single-lane stretch from Maro to Kishtwar Pather, traffic is likely to slow down further. Commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking.

In view of the inclement weather forecast by the IMD and the likelihood of rainfall over the next few days, the general public has been advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from the Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.

Traffic at Udhampur

Traffic is being managed in a regulated manner at Dwal, Udhampur, on NH-44, with single-lane traffic causing delays of around 30–40 minutes.

Advisory for Passenger Vehicles

Passengers/LWV operators are advised to prefer travelling on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the possibility of shooting stones/landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

Advisory for Tanker Movement

In view of widening work being undertaken by the NHAI on Dogdal–Kishtwar Pather axis on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers shall remain restricted during the daytime.

The movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material will remain restricted between 0700 hrs and 1500 hrs. Tanker movement shall be allowed during the night, between 1700 hrs and 0600 hrs. Tanker operators have been advised to plan their journey accordingly for their safety.

Goods Carrier Advisory

Goods carriers (HMV/LMV) carrying fresh perishable/non-perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per capacity limits fixed by the Traffic Police Headquarters.

They are also advised to avoid unnecessary stopping of vehicles on the highway, particularly because of ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV Operators

HMV operators/owners have been requested to avoid overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

Vehicle owners should also check the fitness of their vehicles and carry necessary documents before undertaking their journey.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone areas.

Traffic Plan & Advisory for 13-09-2026

Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMV passenger/private cars/HMV goods carriers shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.

Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, avoid wrong-lane driving and exercise caution. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.

Amarnath Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, security force vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.

They shall move after confirming the status of the NHW from the concerned TCU.

Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244

As per orders issued by the SDM Chatroo and SDM Kokernag, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting green signal from road maintenance agencies, LMVs/passenger/private cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.

Vehicles shall be allowed to move from PP Panjina/Banjina Anantnag between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Dachhan towards Kishtwar between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timing. TCU Jammu/Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

SSG Road

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.

Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minimarg towards Srinagar after receiving clearance from the road maintenance agencies up to 1800 hrs.

However, HMV traffic shall be allowed to move from Minimarg towards Srinagar between 1700 hrs and 1900 hrs.

HMVs shall be allowed to move only after being properly equipped to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain more grip on slippery roads.

TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.

Security forces convoy movement on the SSG road shall be planned in such a manner that civil traffic is not obstructed.

Mughal Road (NH-701A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREF), traffic movement of LMVs/private cars/HMVs up to 10 tonnes shall be allowed on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.

Vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1600 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.

As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
