Travellers, tourists and local residents have expressed concern over the lack of proper public washroom facilities in Bhoond and Mahanpur areas of Kathua district, causing significant inconvenience to people travelling through these important locations.
Bhoond and Mahanpur are two important stopping points where passenger buses, matadors (mini-buses) and other small vehicles regularly halt during their journeys. A large number of passengers, including tourists, women, children and elderly people, stop at these locations for rest and refreshments.
However, despite being regular stopping points for public transport and private vehicles, proper public washroom facilities are reportedly not available, creating considerable inconvenience for travellers.
Passengers point out that the absence of clean and accessible toilets becomes particularly problematic during long journeys. Women, elderly persons and families travelling with children are among those facing the greatest inconvenience.
Mudasar Ali, a social activist from the Bani area, while expressing concern over the lack of basic sanitation facilities at these important stopping points, urged the concerned authorities to take immediate action.
“Bhoond and Mahanpur are regular stopping points for buses, matadors and other vehicles. Thousands of passengers and tourists travelling through these areas face inconvenience due to the absence of proper public washrooms. The authorities should establish clean and properly maintained toilet facilities at both locations,” he said.
Airing the grievance of local inhabitants, Mudasar said that the availability of basic sanitation facilities was essential not only for the convenience of travellers but also for maintaining cleanliness and promoting tourism in the region.
