From 15-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 16-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic, resulting in diversion of traffic at Nashri Tunnel and Chenani, in addition to the breakdown of 02 vehicles at 14 and 15 and the movement of 05 nomadic herds crossing Banihal/Nachlana.
Owing to ongoing movement of nomadic herds, traffic on the single-lane stretch from Marog to Kishtwar Pather is likely to slow down. Commuters are advised to drive carefully and avoid overtaking.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from the Traffic Control Units (TCUs) and checking the latest updates from the Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Important Traffic Updates
Traffic is being managed on a regulated basis at Dwal, Udhampur, on NH-44 due to a single lane of approximately 30–40 metres.
Passenger/LMV operators are advised to plan their journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during the daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, movement of nomads from the valley, and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on the DigdoI-Khooni Nallah axis on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of vehicular traffic is being regulated.
The movement of vehicles loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.
Goods carrier (HMV/LWV) operators carrying fresh, perishable items are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time.
HMV operators are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 17-09-2026
1. Jammu–Srinagar NH-44
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, passenger/private cars, and HMVs (goods-carrying vehicles) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e., from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, overtake carefully, and give way to other vehicles. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/SF Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, security force vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), via Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa. They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.
2. Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per the traffic plan issued by the concerned authorities, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, and after receiving the green signal from road maintenance agencies (NHDCL), LMVs, passenger/private cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from KP Parna towards Anantnag between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicles shall be allowed after the cut-off timing. TCU Jammu/Ramban/Kishtwar shall inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
3. SSG Road
As per the order issued by the concerned authorities, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar–Sonamarg road, i.e., from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar only after receiving the green signal from road maintenance agencies and TCU Kargil.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains to gain more grip on the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SFC convoy moving on the SSG road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civil traffic is not disturbed.
4. Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (R&B), vehicular movement (LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres only) shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e., from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarh (Poonch) towards Shopian via Buffliaz (Shopian) and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarh towards Shopian via Heerpora (Shopian) from 0700 hrs to 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings. As per the order issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
Advisory: Confirm Road Status Before Travel
