The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar has issued a detailed traffic plan and advisory for 19 September 2026, covering the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Mughal Road, SSG Road and other important routes.
The advisory has been issued in view of expected heavy traffic movement, road widening works, single-lane traffic, ongoing construction activities, rainfall-related conditions and movement of security forces. Commuters, LMV drivers, HMVs and goods carriers have been advised to check the latest road status before starting their journey.
J&K Traffic Advisory – Key Highlights
According to the advisory, heavy traffic movement is expected on NH-44 during the specified period. Commuters have been advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the latest road and traffic status.

Heavy Traffic Expected on NH-44
The advisory states that heavy traffic movement is expected on NH-44 during the specified period.
The traffic police has advised commuters to remain updated about the condition of the road and to confirm the traffic situation before commencing their journey.
The movement of nomadic populations and livestock has also been highlighted as a factor that may affect traffic movement on the highway.
Due to ongoing road and construction activities, commuters are advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary stoppages on vulnerable stretches.
Traffic Managed on Regulated Manner at Dawal, Udhampur
Traffic is being managed in a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur, on NH-44 due to single-lane movement.
According to the advisory, the single-lane stretch may result in traffic delays of approximately 30–40 minutes.
Commuters travelling through the area are advised to maintain patience and follow the instructions of traffic personnel.
Advisory for Passengers and LMV Operators
Passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators have been advised to prefer travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime.
Night travel should be avoided as there are chances of:
Shooting stones and landslides.
Movement of nomads from the valley.
Ongoing construction activities.
Traffic inconvenience between Ramban and Banihal.
The Traffic Police has advised commuters to exercise additional caution while travelling through these stretches.
Road Widening Work on Digdole–Khooni Nallah
Road widening work is being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the Digdole–Khooni Nallah axis of the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Due to this work, the movement of tanker vehicles loaded with inflammable material has been restricted during the specified hours.
According to the advisory, such tanker movement is restricted between 07:00 AM and 03:00 PM.
However, the movement of tankers may be permitted beyond Chinaani after 11:00 PM up to 06:00 AM, subject to the prevailing road conditions.
Tankers are advised to park safely at designated/suitable locations and avoid creating inconvenience or obstruction to other road users.
Advisory for Goods Carriers
Goods carriers transporting perishable livestock have been advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters.
The notice further advises goods-carrier operators to plan their movement carefully because ongoing road construction work between Ramban and Banihal may cause inconvenience and delays to commuters.
Advisory for HMVs and HMV Operators
HMV operators/owners have been advised to refrain from overloading and to carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Vehicle owners have also been advised to:

Avoid Unnecessary Halts Between Ramban and Banihal
Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near landslide-prone and construction-affected stretches.

Traffic Plan & Advisory for 19 September 2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs/Passenger Vehicles/Private Cars/LMVs carrying goods will be allowed to move from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters have been advised to follow lane discipline and avoid wrong-lane driving, as this can result in congestion.
TCU Jammu-Srinagar shall remain closed from Ramban regarding the road condition, as mentioned in the advisory.
Army/RF Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles will be allowed to move from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
The movement will take place after confirming the status of the NHW from TCU Ramban.
Commuters should exercise caution and follow the instructions of traffic personnel during convoy movement.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
The advisory refers to orders issued by the SDM Chatroo and SDM Kokernag concerning traffic movement on the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag route.
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, HMVs/Passenger/Private Cars/LMVs will be allowed to move from both sides on the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road.
Vehicles will be allowed to move from:
Kishtwar towards Sinthan/Anantnag side: 0800 hrs to 1400 hrs.
Anantnag towards Kishtwar side: 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs.
No vehicle will be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timing.
The advisory further states that TCU Jammu/Srinagar will inform commuters about the cut-off timing.
SSG Road
As per the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs will be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri road.
Traffic will be allowed from:
Sonamarg towards Kargil
Minamarg towards Srinagar
Vehicles will be permitted to move only after receiving the green signal from the road maintenance agency, up to the specified cut-off time.
The advisory states that HMVs will be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar during the specified hours, while no vehicle will be allowed after the prescribed cut-off timing.
Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to improve grip on the slippery road.
TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.
SSG convoy movement shall be regulated so that civil traffic is not obstructed.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, vehicles will be allowed to move after obtaining clearance from the concerned road maintenance agency.
The advisory permits LMV movement by HMVs up to Ten, with movement from both sides.
Vehicles will be allowed to travel from both sides, including:
Poonch towards Shopian
Shopian towards Poonch
The advisory also mentions movement of vehicles from Chandwari towards Shopian and vice versa, subject to the prescribed timings and road conditions.
Vehicles will not be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timing.
As per the order issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, traffic movement will be regulated according to the prevailing road conditions.
TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform commuters regarding the cut-off timing.
