Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 28th Sep 2026,NH-44 Traffic Update & Travel Guidelines

TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR

From 26-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 27-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane vehicular movement and under-surface work of the road at Dawal, Udhampur, as well as the single-lane stretch between Marnog and Kishtwar Pather. This was further affected by the breakdown of 03 vehicles between Marnog and Nachlana and the movement of 10 nomadic herds crossing Banihal-Nachlana.

Traffic is likely to slow down. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and good overtaking practices.

Traffic remained regulated on the regulated munna at Dawal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single-lane movement for about 30–40 minutes.

Passenger/LWV Operators

Passenger/LWV operators are advised to prefer journeys on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to apprehension of shooting stones/landslides and movement of nomads from valley, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconveniences to commuters.

In view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on Digdol-Kishani Nallah axis on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles and other vehicles shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime, between 0700 hrs to 1800 hrs. The movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, the movement of up tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience and for their safety.

Goods carriers (HMV/LMV) carrying fresh/perishable stock are advised to load their vehicles as per advisories issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as there is apprehension of shooting stones/landslides as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

HMV Operators are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journeys on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near shooting stone zones.

TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 28-09-2026 Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs, Passenger/PSVs and Private Cars/HMVs (Goods carrying) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.

Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, maintain adequate distance and avoid driving with undue congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.

Army/RR’s Convoy Movement

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, security forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. They shall not enter the confluence of NHW from TCU Ramban.

Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244

As per order issued by the SDM Chatroo vide No. SDM/CH/2026-27/578-88 dated 06-07-2026 and the SDM Kishtwar vide No. SDM/K/2026-27/486-95 dated 09-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after getting green signal from Road Maintenance Agencies (NHDCL), LMVs/Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road.

These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0600 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timing. TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

SSG Road

As per order issued by the DVCOM Kashmir vide No. DivComDev/100/2026/432-4410 dated 14-09-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.

However, vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar only, after receiving the green signal from the road maintenance agencies, up to 1300 hrs.

However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.

Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain more grip on the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timing.

SSG convoy moving on the SSG road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civilian traffic is not disturbed.

Mughal Road (NH-144A)

Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (R&B/PWD), vehicles followed by HMVs up to 10 tyres only shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.

Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Chandimandir (Bufliaz) towards Shopian and from Heerpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.

No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings. As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian vide No. DMS/ADM/PS-07/2021-31 dated 03-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
