Commuters and transport operators have been advised to follow the instructions of Traffic Police personnel and avoid unnecessary travel on vulnerable stretches.

Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)

According to the advisory, traffic movement on NH-44 has been slow due to ongoing road and construction-related activities.

From 30 September 2026 to 1 October 2026, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to the apprehension of shooting stones from the road-cutting zone at Dalwas and the movement of traffic between Marog and Khooni Nallah. The breakdown of several vehicles between Ramban and Banihal also affected traffic movement.

Traffic between Marog and Khooni Nallah is expected to remain slow. Commuters have been advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid unnecessary overtaking.

Traffic is also being managed in a regulated manner at Damal, Udhampur, on NH-44 because of a single-lane stretch, where traffic is moving at around 30–40 kmph.

Passengers and LMV operators travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway have been advised to undertake their journey during daylight hours.

Night travel should be avoided due to the possibility of shooting stones/landslides, movement of nomadic groups from valley areas and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.

The Traffic Police has advised commuters to remain cautious and follow directions issued by personnel deployed along the highway.

Restrictions on Oil Tankers on NH-44

Due to widening work being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on the Digdol–Khooni Nallah stretch of Jammu-Srinagar NH-44, movement of Kashmir-bound oil tankers will remain restricted during daytime hours.

The advisory states that oil tankers will remain restricted from 07:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs. Their movement will be permitted during the restricted period only through designated tunnels.

Oil tankers will be allowed to move beyond Chenani only after 17:00 hrs up to 06:00 hrs. Tanker operators have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.

Advisory for Good Carrier and HMV Operators

Good Carrier (HMV/LMV) operators carrying fresh perishable stock have been advised to load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters.

This is particularly important because of the possibility of shooting stones/landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience and delays.

HMV Operators Advised to Carry Sufficient Fuel

HMV operators and owners travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 have been asked to avoid overloading and ensure that sufficient fuel is available before starting their journey.

The advisory specifically asks vehicle owners to double-check the fuel level and carry adequate fuel before undertaking travel on the highway.

Avoid Unnecessary Halt Between Ramban and Banihal

Commuters have also been advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, particularly near landslide-prone areas.

Stopping vehicles at vulnerable locations may create traffic congestion and expose commuters to additional risks.
