Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Advisory 7th Oct 2026,NH-44, SSG Road, & Travel Guidelines
TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
From 05-10-2026, 1600 hrs to 06-10-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane, undulating & uneven surface of the road at Chennani Udhampur as well as the single-lane restriction between Mager Kot and Khooni Nallah, in addition to the breakdown of 04 vehicles between Nashri and Ramban and the movement of 11 livestock herds (grazing Barambagh).
Owing to ongoing movement of stranded vehicles, traffic on the single-lane stretch from Magarkot to Khooni Nallah is likely to slow down. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall tonight and tomorrow, the general public is advised to undertake their journey only after confirming the status of the road from the concerned TCU Srinagar/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the status of roads at J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Traffic managed on regulated manner at Dewal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single lane about 30–40 mins.
Advisory for Passengers/LV Operators
Passengers/LMV operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, movement of nomads from valley as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
In view of widening works being undertaken by NHAI on Qazigund-Khanni Nallah side on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil & gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime in between 0700 hrs to 1500 hrs, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, the movement of up tankers shall be allowed beyond Chennani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience and for their safety.

Goods carrier (HMV/LWV) operators carrying fresh perishable/live stock are advised to load their vehicle as per capacity issued by Traffic Police Headquarters. Time to time, they are also advised to avoid overloading of vehicles and also avoid construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV owners/operators are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners should make checks for fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting stone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 07-10-2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMV Passenger/HPV/Private Cars/HMVs (Good carrying) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, avoid overloading and wrong-lane driving with due coordination. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/SF Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e. Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. They shall move after confirming the status of NHW from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244
As per order issued by the DC Kishtwar vide No. SOK/TC-2026-27/576-85 dated 09-07-2026 and the SOP Kishtwar vide No. SOK/NTK/2025-264/47-98 dated 09-07-2026, subject to fair weather and good road condition, after getting green signal from Road Maintenance agencies (PMGSY/PMGSY?), LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides via Kishtwar towards Sinthan and vice-versa on this road.
These vehicles will be allowed to move from PDD Parina towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0600 hrs and 1500 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut-off time. TCU Jammu/Srinagar/TCU Kishtwar will remain in close coordination with the concerned road authorities.
SSG ROAD
As per order issued by the DivCOM Kashmir vide No. DivComDev/100/2026/392-4110 dated 14-05-2026, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Srinagar–Sonamarg road, i.e. from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar only, after receiving green signals from the road maintenance agencies, up to 1530 hrs. However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 1500 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicles shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains to get more grip on the slippery road. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil shall remain in coordination about the cut-off timing.
SFs convoy moving on the SSG road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civil traffic is not obstructed.
Mughal Road (NH-144A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GENCO), vehicular movement (LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres only) shall be allowed to ply on Mughal Road from both sides, i.e. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice-versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Chandimarh (Jammu) towards Shopian and from Heerapura (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed on the prescribed cut-off timings. As per the order issued by the General Manager (Rajways), vide No. GM/R&B/PCR/2026-31 dated 03-07-2026, TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall remain in close coordination regarding the cut-off timings.
