1. RBI Raises Repo Rate to 5.50%

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) increased the policy repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% on 7 October 2026. It is the first repo-rate hike since February 2023. The Monetary Policy Committee also shifted its policy stance from “Neutral” to “Calibrated Tightening.”

The RBI raised its FY 2026-27 GDP growth forecast to 7.1%, while its inflation projection was increased to 5.2%.
