High Court J&K and Ladakh Research Assistant Recruitment 2026

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has invited online applications for temporary engagement against vacant and anticipated positions of Research Assistants. The recruitment has been announced through Advertisement Notice No. 01 of 2026/RR/RC dated October 1, 2026.

A total of 7 vacant positions are available initially, while a panel will also be prepared for future or anticipated vacancies. The panel will remain valid for one year. Selected candidates will receive a consolidated honorarium of ₹40,000 per month.

Important Dates

Online applications will commence from October 4, 2026.

The last date to submit the online application form is October 13, 2026. The last date for payment of the application fee is also October 13, 2026.

The prescribed application fee is ₹250.

The recruitment portal will be activated on the High Court’s website from October 4, 2026.

Vacancy Details

The notification provides for 7 vacant Research Assistant positions. In addition, a panel will be prepared for filling future or anticipated Research Assistant positions, with the panel remaining valid for one year.

Selected Research Assistants will be engaged on a temporary contractual basis and will receive a consolidated honorarium of ₹40,000 per month.

Research Assistants will not be entitled to allowances or perks other than the prescribed honorarium.

Age Limit

Candidates must not have attained the age of 33 years as on January 15, 2026.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must be Law Graduates by the date of appearing in the interview.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, including an integrated law degree, from a school, college, university or institute established by law in India and recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an Advocate.

Candidates must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate in Law Graduation, including an Integrated Degree Course in Law.

Additionally, the candidate should not have completed two years after enrolment as an Advocate.

Final-Year Law Students Can Also Apply

Candidates currently studying in the final year or last semester of a three-year Law Course or five-year Integrated Law Course are also eligible to apply.

However, such candidates must provide proof of acquiring the Law degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate at the time of the interview.

Domicile and Residency Requirement

The candidate must be a domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir in accordance with the relevant Government of Jammu & Kashmir provisions.

Alternatively, candidates who are residents of the Union Territory of Ladakh for at least 15 years before the date of application and are actually residing in the area are eligible.

Computer Knowledge Required

Candidates must have knowledge of computers, including the ability to retrieve required legal information through search engines and legal research platforms such as Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis and Westlaw.

Character and Integrity Requirement

Applicants must possess absolute integrity, honesty and good moral character. Candidates will be required to submit certificates from two responsible persons at the time of the interview.

Duration of Engagement

The Research Assistant engagement will initially be for one year from the date of joining the assignment.

The engagement may be extended for a further period of up to one year, subject to approval of the Chief Justice or the committee nominated by the Chief Justice.

However, the assignment may be discontinued before completion of one year if the services of the Research Assistant are found to be unsatisfactory.

The selected candidate must join within the period specified in the engagement order. Requests for extension of the joining period will not be entertained.

The Research Assistant position is purely contractual and will not be treated as regular employment in the services of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Selection Process

The selection of Research Assistants will be conducted according to the selection process prescribed under the relevant High Court guidelines and subsequent amendments.

The notification refers to the guidelines notified through High Court Notification No. 578 dated August 30, 2016, as amended through subsequent notifications issued in 2018, 2021 and 2026.

Candidates have been advised to carefully go through the applicable notifications before applying.

Interview Details

The date and place of the interview will be notified separately through print media.

No TA/DA will be paid to candidates appearing for the interview.

The prescribed application fee for the Research Assistant recruitment is ₹250.

The fee must be submitted online on or before October 13, 2026.

The recruitment portal will be activated on October 4, 2026. Candidates should complete the application process and fee payment before the deadline of October 13, 2026.

Candidates intending to leave the assignment within the one-year period, or any extended period, must provide one month’s prior notice with prior intimation to the concerned Hon’ble Judge to whom they are attached.
